Description
Phenergan® 25mg Tablets contain promethazine hydrochloride, a sedating antihistamine used for the relief of a variety of conditions. It is commonly used to treat allergic conditions such as hay fever, rashes and itching, as well as to prevent travel sickness and provide short-term relief of sleep disturbance.
Due to its sedating properties, Phenergan can also help reduce night-time allergy symptoms and may be used as a short-term sleep aid in adults. This larger 56-tablet pack is suitable for ongoing allergy management where appropriate.

How to Use
Always follow the patient information leaflet and advice given by a pharmacist.
Allergy relief
- Adults: 25mg once daily, usually at night.
- In some cases, the dose may be split (e.g. morning and evening) as advised by a pharmacist.
Travel sickness
- Adults: 25mg the night before travel and 25mg on the morning of travel.
- Children (10–17 years): Dose may be lower – follow pharmacist advice.
Short-term sleep aid
- Adults: 25–50mg at night.
- Use for short periods only.
Administration advice:
- Swallow tablets with water.
- Avoid alcohol while taking Phenergan.
- May cause drowsiness – do not drive or operate machinery if affected.

Lactose monohydrate, maize starch, povidone, magnesium stearate.

Warnings & Precautions
- Pharmacy-only medicine – suitability should be assessed by a pharmacist.
- Causes drowsiness – avoid alcohol and sedatives.
- Do not use if you:
- Have glaucoma, prostate problems, or difficulty passing urine
- Have a history of seizures
- Not suitable for children under 10 years.
- Use with caution in elderly patients, due to increased risk of drowsiness and confusion.
- Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless advised by a healthcare professional.
Possible Side Effects

- Drowsiness or sedation
- Dry mouth
- Dizziness
Less common:
- Blurred vision
- Confusion (especially in older adults)
- Headache
