AeroChamber Plus® Adult Spacer with Mouthpiece

The AeroChamber Plus® Mouthpiece Adult Spacer is a valved holding chamber designed for people who have been prescribed a metered dose inhaler (MDI). It holds the aerosol medicine after you press the inhaler, giving you more time to inhale and helping improve coordination of “press and breathe”.

Using a spacer can help:

• Improve delivery of inhaler medicine to the lungs
• Filter out larger particles that are less likely to reach the lungs

It is intended for use with an MDI (and is supplied in mouthpiece format for adult use). If you have concerns about using the chamber or your inhaler technique, ask a healthcare professional.

Before each use

• Read and keep the instructions with your inhaler.
• Look inside the chamber. If there is visible dust/debris, clean the chamber.
• Replace the device immediately if damaged or if parts are missing.

How to use with a mouthpiece (MDI)

1. Remove caps from the inhaler and chamber. Shake the inhaler immediately before use (as per inhaler instructions).
2. Insert the inhaler into the backpiece of the chamber.
3. Put the mouthpiece into your mouth and close your lips around it to form a good seal.
4. Exhale, then press the inhaler once at the beginning of a slow inhalation.
5. Either:

• Inhale slowly and deeply until a full breath is taken, hold your breath for 5–10 seconds, then exhale; or
• Breathe in and out through the chamber for 2–3 breaths, keeping lips sealed around the mouthpiece.

Important technique notes

• One puff at a time. Follow your inhaler’s instructions for how long to wait before repeating.
• If you hear a whistle sound, it means you’re inhaling too quickly: slow down (adult models).

Cleaning (before first use, then weekly)

1. Remove the backpiece only.
2. Soak parts for 15 minutes in lukewarm clean water with a mild liquid dish detergent; agitate gently.
3. Do not rinse (a thin film of detergent helps performance).
4. Shake out excess water and air dry vertically. Do not rub dry.
5. Refit the backpiece only when completely dry.

Replacement

• For optimum performance, replace after 12 months of use. 

This is a medical device (spacer), not a medicine.

• Free from Bisphenol A (BPA), phthalates, latex, lead, and PVC.
• Contains small parts (see warnings). 

Warnings

• Do not leave unattended with children. Contains small parts that can cause choking.
• Do not use with Dry Powder Inhalers (DPIs) or nebulizers. The chamber is not designed for these medicines and you may not get the proper dose.
• Do not boil or sterilise the device as it may be permanently damaged.
• If you hear the whistle, slow your inhalation (you are breathing in too quickly).

Side effects

• The spacer itself does not contain active medicine. Side effects are usually related to your prescribed inhaler medicine or inhaler technique. If you feel unwell or your symptoms worsen, seek medical advice.

Reporting problems

• Any serious incident relating to the device should be reported to the manufacturer and the relevant authority (MHRA).
