Description
Algesal Local Analgesic Cream is a topical cream containing diethylamine salicylate 10% w/w, a local analgesic to relieve pain when applied to the skin. It is used for the symptomatic relief of pain associated with rheumatic and minor muscular conditions, including: lumbago, fibrositis, sciatica, bruises and strains.
The cream is designed to be gently massaged into the affected area and is suitable for adults, the elderly and children over 6 years. Available in a 50g tube.

How to Use
For external use only. Apply to the skin.
Adults, the elderly and children over 6 years
- Apply a small amount to the affected area and massage until fully absorbed.
- Try on a small area of skin first.
- Use sparingly.
- Apply 3 times a day.
- Wash hands well after use (unless treating the hands).
Children under 6 years
- Not recommended.

- Diethylamine salicylate 10% w/w
Other ingredients
Ethylene glycol stearate, glycerol monostearate, stearic acid, triethanolamine, petrolatum, light liquid paraffin, microcrystalline wax, lavandin composition (contains D-limonene and linalool), purified water.
Side Effects & Warnings
Do not use if:
- You are allergic to any ingredient listed (including fragrance components).
- You are allergic to aspirin or medicines like aspirin.
- The surface of the skin is broken.
- The patient is a child under 6 years, or any child with a history of convulsions (fits).
Warnings & precautions
- Avoid contact with eyes and sensitive areas of the skin.
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding: ask a doctor or pharmacist before use. Do not use if pregnant or breastfeeding unless advised by a doctor.
- Speak to a doctor or pharmacist before use if you are asthmatic.
- Speak to a doctor or pharmacist before use if you are taking:
- medicines to prevent blood clotting such as warfarin (anti-clotting effects may be increased)
- methotrexate (using together could increase methotrexate levels)
- Fire safety: do not smoke or go near naked flames. Fabric that has been in contact with this product may burn more easily and is a serious fire hazard. Washing may reduce build-up but may not remove it fully.
- This medicine contains fragrance with D-limonene and linalool, which may cause allergic reactions.
Possible side effects
- Temporary skin reactions such as redness, a burning sensation, or rashes may occur.
- Discomfort may be more likely if used in hot weather, after a hot bath, or if you have sensitive skin.
- If you notice excessive irritation or any side effects, stop using and speak to a doctor or pharmacist.
- Side effects can be reported via the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
Storage
- Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
- Do not store above 25°C.
- Do not use after the expiry date shown on the carton (expiry date refers to the last day of that month).
