Anbesol Oral Liquid - 10ml

Anbesol Oral Liquid 10ml is a pharmacy-only topical oral gel-like liquid formulated to provide temporary pain relief from conditions affecting the mouth and gums. Its dual-action formula combines a local anaesthetic to numb pain with antiseptic ingredients to help reduce bacterial presence and support comfort at the site of irritation.

This medicine is indicated for short-term relief of mouth ulcers, denture irritation, sore gums and teething pain when non-medicinal methods (such as gum massage or teething rings) are inadequate. It is sugar-free and suitable for both adults and children over 5 months of age.

Administration:

1. Wash hands before use.
2. Cover the mouth of the bottle with a clean fingertip and invert once to dose.
3. Apply undiluted to the affected area in the mouth using a clean fingertip or cotton bud.

Adults & older children:

• Apply two consecutive applications initially for pain relief.
• If necessary, repeat up to a maximum of 6 doses in 24 hours, leaving at least 3 hours between doses.

Babies & children (teething pain):

• Apply a small amount directly to the sore gum.
• May be repeated after 3 hours if needed, but do not exceed 6 applications per 24 hours.

Duration:

• Do not use for more than 7 days for one episode of teething or mouth irritation.

Active ingredients per gram of liquid:

• Lidocaine hydrochloride 0.9% w/w – a local anaesthetic that temporarily blocks pain signals.
• Chlorocresol 0.1% w/w – antiseptic properties that help reduce bacterial load.
• Cetylpyridinium chloride 0.02% w/w – antiseptic that supports protection against infection.

Other ingredients:

• Alcohol (96%), menthol, glycerol, purified water, and food-grade colourants (e.g., E104, E110, E123, E142).

Warnings & Precautions

• For oral topical use only. Do not swallow large amounts.
• Not suitable for children under 5 months unless advised by a GP or pharmacist.
• Keep out of sight and reach of children.
• Do not exceed the stated dose or frequency.
• Do not use concurrently with other products containing lidocaine.
• Avoid contact with eyes; if contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water.
• If symptoms continue beyond 7 days, or worsen, speak to a GP or pharmacist.

Possible Side Effects

Like all medicines, side effects may occur, although not everyone gets them. If present, they are generally mild and topical:

• Local irritation, burning or stinging sensation at application site.
• Allergic reactions such as rash, itching or swelling – seek immediate medical advice if any severe reactions develop.

Other Important Information

• This product contains alcohol and colourants; consult a healthcare professional before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
• If your baby vomits or spits out the liquid after application, wait at least 3 hours before reapplying.

Storage

• Store below 25 °C in the original packaging.
• Do not use after the expiry date on the bottle or carton.
