Description
Benylin Day & Night Tablets – 16 Tablets is a pharmacy medicine providing 24-hour relief from common cold and influenza symptoms through a dual formulation tailored for daytime and night-time use.
- Day tablets (white): relief of pain, headache, fever and nasal congestion without causing drowsiness.
- Night tablets (blue): continued symptom relief at bedtime while aiding restful sleep with an antihistamine component.
This product helps reduce temperature, relieve aches and pains, clear blocked noses and soothe catarrh — making it easier to manage symptoms through the day and sleep more comfortably at night.
Suitable for adults and children aged 12 years and over as directed in the accompanying Patient Information Leaflet.
How to Use
Recommended dose (Adults & children aged 12 years and over):
- Day (white) tablet: Take one tablet every 4–6 hours, up to 3 white tablets in 24 hours.
- Night (blue) tablet: Take one tablet at bedtime.
- Maximum: 4 tablets in any 24 hours (3 white + 1 blue).
Administration:
- Swallow tablets whole with water.
- Do not take the night-time tablet during the day.
Important guidance:
- Do not exceed the recommended dose.
- Use for no more than 7 days without medical or pharmacist advice.
- Read the enclosed leaflet before use.
Not suitable for children under 12 years.
Ingredients
Active Ingredients:
- White (Day) Tablets:
- Paracetamol 500 mg – analgesic and fever reducer
- Pseudoephedrine hydrochloride 60 mg – nasal decongestant
- Blue (Night) Tablets:
- Paracetamol 500 mg – analgesic and fever reducer
- Diphenhydramine hydrochloride 25 mg – antihistamine to help relieve a runny nose and support sleep
Other Ingredients:
- Excipients such as maize starch, microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, colourants (e.g. titanium dioxide E171, indigo carmine E132 in night tablets).
Form: Tablet (white day-time and blue night-time variants).
Side Effects & Warnings
Do NOT take this medicine if you:
- Are allergic to paracetamol, pseudoephedrine, diphenhydramine or any other ingredient.
- Have severe hypertension, severe coronary artery disease, or certain heart conditions (consult healthcare professional).
- Are taking other medicines containing paracetamol — to avoid overdose.
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding without medical/pharmacist advice.
Warnings & precautions:
- The night tablets can cause drowsiness — do not drive or operate machinery if affected.
- Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine (especially night tablets).
- Not suitable for children under 12 years.
- Use with caution if you have high blood pressure, thyroid issues, glaucoma, diabetes, prostate enlargement, or severe liver/kidney impairment — seek pharmacist advice first.
- Do not use within 14 days of stopping MAOIs (monoamine oxidase inhibitors).
Possible side effects:
Like all medicines, this product can cause adverse effects, though not everyone experiences them. These may include:
- Drowsiness (especially from night tablets)
- Dry mouth
- Nausea
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Rapid heartbeat (pseudoephedrine effects)
- Allergic reactions (rare)

Overdose warning:
Paracetamol overdose can lead to serious liver damage. In cases of overdose, even if you feel well, seek urgent medical attention.
