Buccastem M Buccal - 8 Tablets

Buccastem M® Buccal Tablets are a pharmacy-only medicine used for the short-term treatment of nausea and vomiting associated with migraine. Each tablet contains prochlorperazine maleate, which works by blocking dopamine receptors in the brain to help control feelings of sickness.

The buccal formulation is designed to dissolve slowly between the gum and cheek, making it especially useful when swallowing tablets is difficult due to nausea or vomiting. Buccastem M can be taken at the first sign of migraine-related sickness and provides targeted relief without the need for water.

Dosage

• Adults aged 18 years and over:
• Place one tablet high up between the gum and upper lip (or cheek).
• Use twice daily if required.
• Maximum duration: 2 days per migraine attack.

Administration advice

• Do not chew or swallow the tablet.
• Allow the tablet to dissolve slowly in the mouth.
• Alternate sides of the mouth with each dose.

Important advice:

• Not suitable for children or adolescents under 18 years.
• If symptoms persist beyond 2 days, seek advice from a pharmacist or GP.

Active ingredient:

• Prochlorperazine maleate 3mg per buccal tablet

Other ingredients include:

Gelatin, lactose monohydrate, liquid glucose, magnesium stearate.

Warnings & Precautions

• Pharmacy-only medicine – suitability must be assessed by a pharmacist.
• May cause drowsiness – do not drive or operate machinery if affected.
• Avoid alcohol, as it can increase drowsiness.
• Do not use if you:
• Have Parkinson’s disease
• Have epilepsy
• Have a history of blood disorders
• Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless advised by a healthcare professional.
• Keep out of the sight and reach of children.

Possible Side Effects

Common:

• Drowsiness
• Dry mouth

Less common:

• Dizziness
• Restlessness
• Muscle stiffness or unusual movements (rare)

Stop use and seek medical advice immediately if you experience uncontrolled movements, severe confusion, or signs of an allergic reaction.

Storage

• Store below 25°C.
• Keep tablets in the original packaging.
• Do not use after the expiry date shown on the carton.
