Covonia Chesty Cough Mixture 150ml Mentholated

Covonia Chesty Cough Mixture 150ml is a mentholated expectorant cough remedy designed to relieve troublesome chesty coughs and sore throats. It contains a combination of liquorice liquid extract, squill tincture and levomenthol, which work together to help loosen and clear phlegm while easing the congestion and irritation that often come with chesty coughs and bronchitis. It is also described as non-drowsy.

This mixture is suitable for adults, the elderly and children aged 5 years and over. The product is supplied as a brown cloudy liquid with a menthol and aniseed aroma, and the 150ml bottle is part of the verified UK pack range.

Take by mouth using a suitable 5ml spoon or measuring device. For adults, the elderly and children over 12 years, take 1 or 2 x 5ml spoonfuls every 4 hours if required. For children aged 5 to 12 years, take 1 x 5ml spoonful every 4 hours if required. Do not give to children under 5 years unless a doctor tells you to.

Do not use more than the recommended dose. If symptoms persist, worsen, or you are concerned about an ongoing cough, seek advice from a doctor or pharmacist.

Active ingredients (per 5ml):

Liquorice liquid extract 0.11ml, squill tincture 0.75ml, levomenthol 1.1mg.

Other ingredients:

Peppermint oil, anise oil, capsicum tincture (capsicum oleoresin, ethanol), syrup (sucrose), liquid glucose, magnesium aluminium silicate, sodium methyl, ethyl and propyl parahydroxybenzoates (E215, E219), glycerol (E422), caramel (E150c), purified water.

Additional ingredient advice:

This product contains sucrose and glucose, and it also contains ethanol from capsicum tincture plus parahydroxybenzoates, which may cause allergic reactions, possibly delayed.

Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to any of the ingredients or if you have any type of heart complaint. Speak to a doctor or pharmacist before use if you are pregnant or breast-feeding, have high blood pressure, take medicines to control your blood pressure, or are taking medicines such as digoxin or beta-blockers for heart problems.

This product contains liquorice, which can affect potassium levels and may interact with some heart medicines. It also contains sugars, so this should be considered if you have been told by a healthcare professional that you have an intolerance to some sugars.

Possible side effects include allergic reactions such as dermatitis, skin rash, flushing and itchy lumps. If you notice signs of allergy or any unusual reaction, stop use and seek medical advice.
