Condoms can help reduce the risk of pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) when used correctly every time.

1. Check the expiry date and that the foil is sealed and undamaged.
2. Open carefully at the notch (avoid nails, teeth, sharp objects).
3. With the condom the right way up, pinch the teat end to remove air and leave space, then place on the tip of the erect penis.
4. Roll down to the base. Stop and replace if it won’t roll down easily (it may be inside out).
5. After ejaculation, hold the condom at the base and withdraw while still erect.
6. Tie, wrap and dispose of in a bin (do not flush).

Lubricant guidance

• Use water-based or silicone-based lubricant with latex condoms.
• Avoid oil-based products (they can damage latex and reduce effectiveness).
