Esomeprazole 20mg - 28 Tablets

Esomeprazole Gastro-Resistant Capsules are a prescription-only medicine used to reduce excess stomach acid. Esomeprazole belongs to a group of medicines known as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), which work by decreasing the amount of acid produced in the stomach.

This treatment is commonly prescribed for conditions caused by excess stomach acid, including gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD), heartburn, and stomach or duodenal ulcers. It may also be used alongside antibiotics to treat ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori), to prevent ulcers linked to long-term NSAID use, or to manage rare conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

Suitable for adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over, Esomeprazole capsules are gastro-resistant to help protect the medicine from stomach acid and ensure it works effectively.

• Always take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor or pharmacist.
• Swallow capsules whole with a glass of water.
• Do not chew or crush the capsules.
• Capsules can be taken with or without food.
• Dosage and duration depend on the condition being treated and may include:
• GERD / heartburn: Usually 20mg or 40mg once daily
• Stomach or duodenal ulcers: Typically 20mg once daily for several weeks
• H. pylori eradication: 20mg twice daily in combination with antibiotics
• If you have difficulty swallowing, the capsule may be opened and the pellets mixed with still water, as advised by a healthcare professional.
• Not recommended for children under 12 years of age.

• Microcrystalline cellulose
• Mannitol
• Carrageenan
• Sodium hydrogen carbonate
• Polyvinyl alcohol-PEG copolymer
• Methacrylic acid-ethyl acrylate copolymer
• Talc
• Titanium dioxide (E171)
• Gelatin
• Iron oxides (E172 – capsule colouring, strength dependent)

Do Not Take This Medicine If:

• You are allergic to esomeprazole or other proton pump inhibitors
• You are taking nelfinavir (used to treat HIV)
• You have previously had a severe skin reaction to esomeprazole or similar medicines

Warnings & Precautions

• Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before use if you have liver or kidney problems.
• Long-term use may increase the risk of bone fractures, low magnesium levels, or vitamin B12 deficiency.
• Esomeprazole may mask symptoms of serious conditions. Seek medical advice if you experience unexplained weight loss, difficulty swallowing, persistent stomach pain, vomiting blood, or black stools.
• Rare but serious skin reactions have been reported. Stop taking this medicine and seek urgent medical attention if you develop a severe rash, blistering, or peeling of the skin.
• Not recommended during breastfeeding. Use during pregnancy only if advised by a doctor.

Possible Side Effects

Common side effects may include:

• Headache
• Abdominal pain
• Diarrhoea or constipation
• Nausea or vomiting
• Flatulence

Serious side effects are rare but require immediate medical attention.
