Product Overview
Protective oral mucosal spray to help prevent and soothe oral mucositis symptoms. A bio-adhesive zinc-taurine formula that soothes pain and supports oral comfort.
Description
GelX Oral Spray – 100 ml is a medical device oral spray developed to protect the mucous membranes of the mouth and to help prevent and treat oral mucositis — a painful inflammation and ulceration of oral tissues often associated with chemotherapy, radiotherapy or other medical causes. It creates a bio-adhesive protective barrier on affected tissues, helping to soothe exposed nerve endings, reduce pain and discomfort, and protect ulcerated areas from further injury and bacterial colonisation.
Clinically used in both prevention and symptomatic relief, GelX is indicated for adults and children where oral mucosal damage is anticipated or present, and it can support patients through cancer treatment-related oral complications by reducing severity and helping maintain oral intake and comfort.
How to Use
Adults and children (as directed by a healthcare professional):
- Shake the bottle gently before use.
- Remove the cap and aim the spray nozzle towards the lesion or area inside the mouth.
- Spray GelX 3 times on the affected area.
- Repeat this application up to 3 times daily or as advised by your dentist, pharmacist or clinician.
Important Notes:
- Avoid consuming food or drink (solid or liquid) for at least one hour after application to allow the protective barrier to form.
- Use as part of a comprehensive oral care protocol during radiotherapy, chemotherapy or other mucosa-irritating treatments under clinical guidance.
Ingredients
Active / Functional Components:
- Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) — high-molecular-weight polymer that forms a protective film over mucosal tissue.
- Zinc Gluconate — mineral salt that participates in a bioactive zinc-taurine complex with anti-inflammatory and bacteriostatic actions, assisting mucosal protection.
- Taurine — an amino-sulphonic acid that contributes anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects in combination with zinc.
Other (excipient) ingredients: (may vary by manufacturer/retailer but commonly include)
- Aqua (water) — vehicle for the formulation.
- Sodium saccharin — flavouring/excipient.
- PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil, Pullulan, flavourings — formulation agents to aid delivery and mouthfeel.
The spray is typically alcohol-free to reduce irritant potential in sensitive oral tissues.
Side Effects & Warnings
Possible Side Effects
GelX Oral Spray is generally well tolerated when used as directed. Because it acts locally and mechanically on the mucosal surface, systemic side effects are rare. Some individuals may experience:
- Transient mouth or throat discomfort shortly after application — usually mild.
- Altered taste sensation effectively temporary.
If unusual irritation, persistent pain or worsening symptoms occur, discontinue use and consult your pharmacist, dentist or doctor for an assessment.
Warnings & Precautions
- For oral use only. Do not swallow large amounts; in case of ingestion, contact a healthcare provider.
- Avoid contact with eyes. In case of accidental eye exposure, rinse thoroughly with clean water and seek advice if irritation persists.
- Do not use if packaging is damaged or tampered with.
- Use under the guidance of a healthcare professional, especially in patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
- If symptoms persist or worsen, consult your clinician promptly — oral mucositis can require wider supportive care from dental/medical teams.
- Consult a pharmacist or doctor before use if you have known allergies to any of the ingredients.
- Keep out of reach of children.
