Gina 10 microgram vaginal tablets provide low-dose local oestrogen to relieve vaginal dryness and discomfort after menopause. Pharmacy medicine for women aged 50+.
Description
Gina® 10 microgram Vaginal Tablets are a pharmacy (P) medicine containing a low dose of estradiol, a form of oestrogen. They are used for the local treatment of vaginal atrophy (also known as urogenital atrophy) in postmenopausal women aged 50 years and over who have not had a period for at least 12 months.
Following menopause, reduced oestrogen levels can lead to symptoms such as vaginal dryness, soreness, itching, burning, discomfort or pain during sex. Gina works locally in the vagina to help restore vaginal tissue and relieve these symptoms, with minimal absorption into the bloodstream.
Gina is suitable for women who:
- Are postmenopausal (50+ years)
- Have symptoms of vaginal atrophy
- Have not used systemic hormone replacement therapy (HRT) recently without medical advice

How to Use
Gina must be supplied following consultation with a pharmacist. Always read the patient information leaflet before use.
Dosage
- Initial treatment:
- Insert one vaginal tablet daily for 14 days
- Maintenance treatment:
- Insert one vaginal tablet twice weekly (for example, every 3–4 days)
How to Insert
- Wash your hands before use.
- Remove the tablet applicator from its packaging.
- Gently insert the applicator high into the vagina.
- Press the plunger to release the tablet.
- Remove and dispose of the applicator safely.
Important Notes
- Use at roughly the same times on scheduled days.
- Do not use for longer than recommended without medical advice.
- Review treatment regularly with a pharmacist or GP.

Side Effects & Warnings
Warnings & Precautions
- Not suitable if you:
- Have or have had breast cancer, oestrogen-dependent cancer, or unexplained vaginal bleeding
- Have a history of blood clots, stroke, or severe liver disease
- Do not use if allergic to estradiol or any of the ingredients.
- Gina is not a contraceptive.
- Not suitable for women under 50 years of age.
Possible Side Effects
Common or mild effects may include:
- Vaginal irritation, discharge or discomfort
- Abdominal discomfort
- Breast tenderness (rare)
These usually settle as treatment continues.
