Healthpoint Chlorhexidine Mouthwash Alcohol-Free is a peppermint-flavoured antibacterial mouthwash formulated with chlorhexidine digluconate 0.2% w/w to help kill oral bacteria that contribute to plaque build-up, gum problems and bad breath. It also helps form a protective effect against plaque bacteria, supporting healthier-looking gums when used as directed.
This alcohol-free formula includes added fluoride for everyday tooth decay support alongside antibacterial action, making it a practical short-term addition to an oral hygiene routine when you want extra gum and plaque control.

How to Use
Follow the directions on the pack. Chlorhexidine mouthwash is generally intended for short-term use.
Directions (typical chlorhexidine mouthwash guidance)
- Measure 10ml, rinse around the mouth for 1 minute, then spit out. Do not swallow.
- Use twice daily (morning and evening), unless your dentist advises otherwise.
- Toothpaste can reduce chlorhexidine’s effect. Rinse well with water after brushing and leave at least 30 minutes before using the mouthwash.
Course length
- Do not use for longer than 1 month unless advised by a dentist or hygienist.
After rinsing
- To help reduce staining, avoid tannin-containing drinks (e.g., tea, coffee, red wine) for about 1 hour after use.

Side Effects & Warnings
Do not swallow. Spit out after rinsing.
Possible side effects
- Tooth/tongue staining and altered taste can occur with chlorhexidine; staining is usually temporary but may sometimes need a scale and polish.
- Mouth irritation or peeling inside the mouth can occur; stop use if this happens and seek advice.
- Dry mouth can occur.
Stop use and get urgent help if you develop signs of an allergic reaction, such as swelling of the mouth/face, wheezing, or difficulty breathing.
Important precautions
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Avoid contact with eyes and ears. If contact occurs, rinse well with water.
- If symptoms of gum disease or mouth infection persist, worsen, or you have recurrent ulcers, arrange dental/medical advice.
