Hydrocortisone 1% Ointment - 15g

Hydrocortisone 1% Ointment 15g is a mild topical corticosteroid used for the short-term relief of inflammation, redness, itching and swelling associated with a range of minor skin conditions.

Containing hydrocortisone 1%, this ointment works by reducing the skin’s inflammatory response, helping to calm flare-ups and relieve discomfort. The ointment formulation is particularly suitable for very dry, thickened or scaly skin, as it helps lock in moisture while treating inflammation.

It is commonly used for conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, allergic skin reactions, insect bites and stings, and mild irritant rashes.

• Apply a thin layer to the affected area.
• Gently smooth into the skin.
• Use once or twice daily, as required.

Do not use for longer than 7 days unless advised by a pharmacist or GP.

Wash hands before and after application unless treating the hands.

If symptoms do not improve within 7 days, or if they worsen, seek medical advice.

Do not use on

• Eyes or face, or ano-genital area.
• If you have an untreated skin infection, including athlete’s foot, chickenpox, shingles, cold sores, impetigo, ringworm or thrush; also avoid use on acne or peri-oral dermatitis.

Warnings and precautions

Speak to a doctor or pharmacist before use if:

• You have psoriasis (can worsen after stopping long-term treatment).
• Your condition worsens during use (may indicate allergy, infection, or need for different treatment).
• Your symptoms return shortly after stopping (within 2 weeks), do not restart without advice.
• Avoid contact with eyes. Contact a doctor if you experience blurred vision or other visual disturbances.

Fire safety warning

Do not smoke or go near naked flames while using this product. Fabric (clothing, bedding, dressings) in contact with it can burn more easily. Washing may reduce build-up but may not remove it completely.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, ask for advice before use. If breast-feeding, do not apply to the chest area.

Possible side effects

Most people have no problems when used correctly.

Stop using and seek urgent medical help if you get:

• Signs of an allergic reaction such as swelling of lips/face/neck with breathing difficulty, rash or hives.

Other effects that may occur (more likely with prolonged or excessive use, especially under dressings):

• Thinning of the skin (particularly in moist areas such as nappy area).
• Stretch marks, widened blood vessels, adrenal gland suppression with frequent/long-term use.
• Steroid withdrawal reaction after prolonged use (spreading redness, burning/stinging, intense itch, peeling, oozing sores).
• Blurred vision (frequency not known).

Contains lanolin: may cause local skin reactions (e.g., contact dermatitis).
