Imigran Nasal Spray 10mg contains sumatriptan and is used for the acute relief of migraine attacks, helping to ease headache and associated symptoms such as nausea and sensitivity to light and sound.
Description
Imigran Nasal Spray 10mg contains sumatriptan, a medicine from the triptan group, also known as 5-HT1 receptor agonists. The official leaflet states that Imigran nasal spray is used to treat migraine headache. It is believed to work by reducing the temporary widening of blood vessels in the head, which helps relieve the headache and other migraine symptoms such as feeling or being sick and sensitivity to light and sound.
This medicine is intended for the acute treatment of migraine attacks and should only be used after migraine symptoms start. It is not used to prevent migraine attacks. Each spray device contains a single dose of sumatriptan in 0.1 ml of a yellow-coloured solution and is supplied as a pre-filled nasal spray device.
The pack presentation listed on dm+d is 2 unit doses, and each spray is sealed in an individual blister to help keep it clean and protected until use. The leaflet also explains that each spray contains just one dose, so each device is used once only.
How to Use
Always use Imigran Nasal Spray exactly as your doctor, prescriber or pharmacist has told you. The leaflet says it is best to use the spray as soon as you feel a migraine coming on, although it can still be used at any time during an attack.
The leaflet states that for adults aged 18 to 65 years, the usual dose is one 10mg spray into one nostril. For adolescents aged 12 to 17 years, the usual dose is 10mg or 20mg, as advised by the prescriber. Imigran is not recommended for children under 12 years and is not recommended for adults over 65 years.
If your migraine improves and then comes back, the leaflet says you may use a second spray, provided at least 2 hours have passed since the first dose. Do not use more than two Imigran nasal sprays in 24 hours. If the first spray does not help, do not use a second spray for the same attack.
The leaflet includes step-by-step use instructions. Keep the spray in its blister until needed. Do not press the blue plunger before use, as this will release the dose. Blow your nose gently if needed, close one nostril with a finger, place the nozzle into the other nostril, breathe in gently through the nose, and press the blue plunger firmly to deliver the full dose in one go. Then keep your head upright for a short time and breathe gently through your mouth.

Side Effects & Warnings
Do not use Imigran if you are allergic to sumatriptan or any of the ingredients, if you have heart disease, angina, a history of heart attack, circulation problems in the legs, a previous stroke or TIA, serious liver disease, or if you are taking ergotamine, related migraine medicines, another triptan / 5-HT1 agonist, or MAOIs, or have taken an MAOI in the last 2 weeks.
Speak to a doctor or pharmacist before use if you have additional risk factors for heart disease, including being a heavy smoker, using nicotine replacement therapy, being a man over 40, or a woman who has been through the menopause. The leaflet also advises caution if you have a history of fits, high blood pressure, liver or kidney disease, or allergy to sulphonamide antibiotics.
Common side effects listed in the leaflet include an unpleasant taste, nausea, vomiting, tiredness, drowsiness, dizziness, weakness, hot flushes, temporary increase in blood pressure, shortness of breath, and feelings of pain, heaviness, pressure, tightness, tingling, heat or cold in different parts of the body.
Seek urgent medical help if you develop signs of an allergic reaction such as rash, hives, wheezing, swollen eyelids, face or lips, or collapse. Urgent medical advice is also needed if chest pain or tightness becomes severe or does not pass quickly, as the leaflet notes these symptoms may rarely be caused by a heart attack.
The leaflet advises that either the migraine itself or the medicine may make you drowsy, so do not drive or use machines if affected. If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, ask a doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.
