Product: Malarone 250 mg/100 mg – 12 Tablets

Malarone is a prescription-only (POM) antimalarial medicine containing two active ingredients — atovaquone 250 mg and proguanil hydrochloride 100 mg — formulated as film-coated tablets. It is used for the prevention and treatment of malaria, a potentially life-threatening disease transmitted by infected mosquitoes.

For prophylaxis, therapy is started 1-2 days before entering a malaria-endemic area, continued daily while in the area and for 7 days after leaving to ensure sufficient protection. For the treatment of acute malaria, a standard adult regimen can involve four tablets once daily for three days (as advised by a clinician).

Malarone acts by targeting malaria parasites at different stages of their life cycle, helping prevent development of infection and aid clearance if already present. Tablet form and daily dosing support practical use for travellers under clinical guidance.

For Malaria Prevention (Prophylaxis):

• Take 1 tablet by mouth once daily, ideally with food or a milky drink to improve absorption.

• Start 1-2 days before entering a malaria-risk area.

• Continue taking the tablet daily while in the risk area.

• After leaving the area, continue taking the tablets for 7 days.

For Treatment of Malaria:

• Follow your clinician’s instructions — commonly this involves taking four tablets once daily for three days (under supervision).

Swallow tablets whole with water; do not crush or chew unless advised by a healthcare professional. Maintain regular timing each day to support consistent blood levels. Always complete the full course for effective protection/treatment.

Active Ingredients (per tablet):
