Description
Mefenamic Acid 250mg Tablets (28 tablets) are a prescription-only anti-inflammatory painkiller (NSAID). They are used for short-term relief of pain and inflammation, including period pain (dysmenorrhoea) and other painful inflammatory conditions when prescribed.
Mefenamic acid works by reducing prostaglandins, substances involved in pain and inflammation. As with all NSAIDs, it should be used at the lowest effective dose for the shortest time to reduce the risk of side effects.
How to Use
Take exactly as directed on the dispensing label.
How to take
- Swallow tablets with water.
- Take with or just after food to reduce stomach upset.
- Take doses evenly spaced as instructed.
- Do not take with other NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen, naproxen, aspirin for pain) unless advised.

Side Effects & Warnings

Do not take and seek advice first if you:
- Have (or have had) a stomach/duodenal ulcer, GI bleeding, or inflammatory bowel disease.
- Have had asthma/wheezing or allergic reactions triggered by aspirin/NSAIDs.
- Have significant kidney, liver, heart problems, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or are at higher cardiovascular risk.
- Are pregnant, especially in the last trimester (NSAIDs may be harmful later in pregnancy).
Stop and seek urgent medical help if you get:
- Black/tarry stools, vomiting blood, severe stomach pain (possible GI bleed/ulcer).
- Chest pain, shortness of breath, sudden weakness/slurred speech (possible clot-related event).
- Severe rash, blistering/peeling, facial/lip/throat swelling, breathing difficulty (serious allergy/skin reaction).
Common side effects can include
- Indigestion, stomach pain, nausea/diarrhoea, headache, dizziness.
Important interactions (tell your prescriber/pharmacist if you take):
- Blood thinners/antiplatelets, steroids, SSRIs, other NSAIDs, ACE inhibitors/diuretics, lithium, methotrexate.
