Product Overview
Molutrex Molluscum Treatment 3 ml is a targeted topical solution containing 5 % potassium hydroxide for the effective management of molluscum contagiosum lesions in adults and children, helping to stimulate the body’s immune response and support lesion resolution.
Description
Molutrex Molluscum Treatment – 3 ml is a topical dermatological solution formulated for the treatment of molluscum contagiosum, a benign but highly contagious viral skin infection characterised by smooth, dome-shaped lesions usually affecting children and adults.
This Class IIa medical device contains a 5 % potassium hydroxide aqueous solution, which gently targets and breaks down the infected epidermal cells on molluscum lesions. The controlled keratolytic action helps trigger a localised immune response, encouraging the skin to clear the lesion and support natural healing.
Molutrex is designed for targeted topical application, and when used correctly, can help accelerate lesion resolution — often within several weeks — compared with leaving the condition untreated.
Suitable for: Adults and children over 2–3 years of age depending on the formulation and retailer guidance.
How to Use
Before first use: Replace the original cap with the child-proof cap with brush applicator, provided in the pack, or use the fine applicator for smaller lesions.
• Apply once or twice daily: Dip the brush or applicator into the solution and wipe off excess on the bottle rim. Gently paint a thin layer only on the surface of the molluscum lesion. Avoid contact with healthy surrounding skin.
• Allow to dry: Let the solution fully dry before covering or dressing the area. Ensure that children do not touch or rub the treated area while drying.
• Continue application daily: Usually for several consecutive days until inflammation (redness) appears (typically 2–10 days), which indicates the lesion is responding to treatment. Once inflammation occurs, stop applying to that specific lesion.
• Repeat for each lesion: Treat all visible molluscum lesions in the same way. Lesions generally resolve over 2–6 weeks after effective application.
Important: Avoid contact with healthy skin, eyes and mucous membranes. Do not use on broken or infected skin.
Ingredients
Active Ingredient:
• Potassium Hydroxide 5 % w/w — acts as a keratolytic agent that helps break down the surface of molluscum lesions, stimulating a local inflammatory response and aiding lesion resolution.
Other Ingredients:
• Purified Water (Aqua) — serves as the solution base.
This simple formulation is typical of topical medical solutions designed to deliver targeted action with minimal excipients.
Side Effects & Warnings
Important Warnings & Precautions
• For external use only. Do not ingest. If accidentally swallowed, rinse mouth with water and seek medical advice.
• Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. If contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with plenty of cool water and seek healthcare advice if irritation persists.
• Apply only to molluscum lesions. Avoid spreading onto surrounding healthy skin; if accidental contact occurs, wash the area immediately with cool water.
• Age restrictions: Generally suitable for adults and children over 2–3 years; check with a clinician or pharmacist for younger children.
• Use caution in patients with atopic dermatitis or compromised skin, as potassium hydroxide can be caustic if misapplied.
• Medical advice: Molluscum contagiosum can resolve spontaneously. Consider professional medical opinion if lesions multiply, are widespread, show signs of infection, or if you are unsure whether this treatment is suitable.
• Discontinue use if intense irritation, burning, swelling or excessive redness occurs and seek healthcare advice.
Keep out of reach of children. Store as directed on the product label.
Possible Side Effects
• Mild irritation, stinging or redness at the applied area may occur as part of the desired inflammatory response; this often indicates treatment activity.
• Excessive irritation or prolonged discomfort beyond target lesions is not expected; discontinue application and seek pharmacist/clinician advice if this occurs.
