Naratriptan Migraine Relief - 2.5mg Pack of 6

Naratriptan 2.5mg Tablets contain naratriptan, a medicine from the triptan group, also known as 5-HT1 receptor agonists. It is used to treat migraine attacks and helps relieve migraine headache along with associated symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound.

Naratriptan works by narrowing temporarily widened blood vessels in the head that are linked to migraine symptoms. It is suitable for use once a migraine headache has started and should not be used to prevent migraine attacks.

The verified branded UK presentation is supplied as green, film-coated, D-shaped tablets engraved GX CE5 on one side, and it is available in packs of 2, 4, 6 or 12 tablets, making a pack of 6 a recognised UK presentation. 

Take Naratriptan exactly as directed by your doctor, prescriber or pharmacist. The usual dose for adults aged 18 to 65 years is one 2.5mg tablet, swallowed whole with water. It is best taken as soon as you feel a migraine starting, although it can still be taken later during an attack.

If your symptoms return, you may take a second tablet after 4 hours, provided you do not have kidney or liver damage. If you have kidney or liver damage, do not take more than one tablet in 24 hours. No one should take more than two tablets in 24 hours.

If the first tablet does not help, do not take a second tablet for the same migraine attack. Seek advice from a doctor or pharmacist if you do not get relief. Naratriptan is not recommended for children under 18 years or for adults over 65 years.

Active ingredient:

Each film-coated tablet contains 2.5mg naratriptan as naratriptan hydrochloride.

Tablet core ingredients:

Microcrystalline cellulose, anhydrous lactose, croscarmellose sodium and magnesium stearate.

Tablet coating ingredients:

Methylhydroxypropylcellulose, titanium dioxide (E171), triacetin, iron oxide yellow (E172) and indigo carmine aluminium lake (E132).

Additional advice:

This medicine contains a small amount of lactose and contains less than 1 mmol sodium (23 mg) per tablet, so it is essentially sodium-free.

Do not take Naratriptan if you are allergic to naratriptan or any of the ingredients, if you have heart disease, angina, a previous heart attack, poor circulation in the legs, a history of stroke or TIA, kidney or liver disease, or if you are taking ergotamine-containing migraine medicines, methysergide, or other triptans such as sumatriptan.

Speak to a doctor or pharmacist before use if you are a heavy smoker, use nicotine replacement therapy, are a man over 40, a postmenopausal woman, have a known allergy to sulphonamide antibiotics, or take SSRIs, SNRIs, or St John’s Wort. Taking naratriptan too often may make headaches worse.

Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, tiredness, drowsiness, sleepiness, feeling generally unwell, dizziness, tingling, and hot flushes. Uncommon side effects include visual disturbances and a slight increase in blood pressure. Serious side effects can include changes in heart rhythm, allergic reactions, heaviness, pressure, tightness or pain in the chest or throat, ischaemic colitis with lower left abdominal pain and bloody diarrhoea, angina, heart attack, and poor circulation to the arms and legs.

Naratriptan may cause drowsiness, and migraine itself can also affect alertness, so do not drive or use machines if affected. In pregnancy, medical advice should be taken before use. During breast-feeding, avoid breast-feeding for 24 hours after taking a dose and discard any milk expressed during that time.
