Product Overview
Once-daily esomeprazole 20 mg gastro-resistant tablets providing up to 24-hour relief from heartburn, acid regurgitation and reflux. Pack of 28 tablets, suitable for adults aged 18+.
Description
Nexium Control 20 mg – Pack of 28 Tablets are gastro-resistant tablets containing 20 mg esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) formulated for the short-term treatment of reflux symptoms such as heartburn and acid regurgitation in adults aged 18 years and over. Unlike antacids and alginates that only neutralise existing acid, Nexium Control works by reducing the amount of acid your stomach produces, helping to address the underlying cause of symptoms.
Nexium Control provides up to 24-hour symptom control with just one tablet a day and is intended for use when heartburn or acid reflux occurs frequently (typically twice or more per week). Relief may begin within a few days of consistent use.
How to Use
Adults aged 18 years and over:
- Take one tablet once daily, preferably at the same time each day, with water. The tablet can be taken with or without food.
- Swallow the tablet whole. Do not chew, crush or break the tablet because it is gastro-resistant and designed to release the active ingredient after passing through the stomach.
Important UK pharmacy guidance:
- Nexium Control is not intended for immediate relief. It may take 2–3 days of consecutive use before full symptom relief is experienced.
- Do not exceed one tablet per day.
- Treatment is usually up to 14 days. If symptoms do not improve after 14 days, consult your pharmacist or doctor before repeating treatment.
- This medicine is not suitable for individuals under 18 years of age.
Administration Tip: Tablets should be swallowed whole; if swallowing is difficult, see leaflet instructions for alternative methods (e.g., dispersing in water).

- Esomeprazole 20 mg (as magnesium trihydrate) — a proton pump inhibitor that reduces gastric acid secretion to relieve symptoms of acid reflux and heartburn.

Typical non-active components contributing to tablet structure and gastro-resistance include:
- Sugar spheres (sucrose and maize starch) — note sucrose content for those with sugar intolerances.
- Glycerol monostearate, hydroxypropylcellulose, hypromellose — coating and binding agents.
- Methacrylic acid ethyl acrylate copolymer, titanium dioxide (E171), iron oxides (E172) — enteric film-coating to protect tablet from stomach acid.
- Magnesium stearate, crospovidone, sodium stearyl fumarate, macrogol 6000, polysorbate 80, talc, triethyl citrate — formulation aids.
Form: Gastro-resistant tablet.
