Nicorette Original Gum 4mg – 210 Pieces

Nicorette® Original Gum 4mg is a nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) used to relieve and/or prevent nicotine withdrawal symptoms and reduce cravings when you:

• Stop smoking tobacco or vaping
• Cut down the number of cigarettes/e-cigarettes you use
• Need support for temporary abstinence (when you can’t or don’t want to smoke/vape).

Why choose 4mg?

The 4mg strength is intended for people who smoke more than 20 cigarettes a day or are heavy vapers (for example, vaping frequently).

How it works

Chewed correctly, nicotine is released from the gum and absorbed through the lining of the mouth, helping to take the edge off cravings and withdrawal symptoms without exposure to the harmful substances in cigarette smoke.

Pack size

• 210 pieces (Original flavour).

Who can use it

• Adults and children aged 12 years and over
• Not for children under 12 years.

Dose

• Use 1 piece when you feel the urge to smoke or vape.
• Use only one piece at a time.
• Do not use more than 15 pieces per day.

Chew-and-rest technique (important)

Nicorette gum is not chewed like ordinary chewing gum. Chewing too quickly can release nicotine too fast and may cause throat irritation, hiccups or stomach upset.

1. Chew slowly until the taste becomes strong.
2. Rest the gum between your gum and cheek.
3. Chew again when the taste fades and repeat.

• Continue for about 30 minutes, then dispose of the gum carefully.

Dentures

The gum may stick to dentures and, rarely, damage them. If this is a problem, another form of NRT may be more suitable.

If you use too many gums (or smoke/vape while using)

You may experience symptoms of too much nicotine (such as nausea, vomiting, increased salivation, stomach pain, diarrhoea, sweating, headache, dizziness, weakness). Seek urgent medical advice and do not smoke or vape. 

Active ingredient

• Nicotine 4mg per medicated chewing gum.

Other ingredients

Chewing gum base, sorbitol, sodium carbonate, flavourings (contains ethanol), polacrilin, glycerol, talc.

Also contains

• Chewing gum base contains butylated hydroxytoluene (E321).
• 4mg gum contains quinoline yellow (E104).

Do not use

• If you are under 12 years of age.
• If you are allergic to nicotine or any of the ingredients.

Warnings & precautions

Speak to a doctor, pharmacist or nurse before using if you:

• Are pregnant or breastfeeding (try to stop without NRT first; if you can’t, seek advice on the most suitable option).
• Have heart or circulation problems (including being in hospital for heart disease), stomach/duodenal ulcer, inflammation of the stomach/oesophagus, liver or kidney disease, overactive thyroid, phaeochromocytoma, diabetes, or a history of seizures (fits).
• Take certain medicines such as theophylline, clozapine or ropinirole (doses may need adjusting when you stop smoking).

Important safety information

• Keep out of the sight and reach of children and animals. Nicotine can be very dangerous to children and may be fatal if taken accidentally. Dispose of used gum safely.

Possible side effects

Nicorette gum can sometimes cause throat irritation at the start of treatment and increased salivation. Chewing continuously may irritate the throat, upset the stomach or cause hiccups.

Stop using and seek medical help immediately if you develop signs of a serious allergic reaction (swelling of face/mouth/lips/tongue/throat, difficulty breathing, severe dizziness) or severe symptoms such as seizures (fits) or fast/irregular heartbeat.
