Description
Nurofen Express 200mg Liquid Capsules are a pain relief and anti-inflammatory medicine containing ibuprofen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). NSAIDs work by changing the body’s response to pain, swelling and high temperature.
This medicine is used for the relief of:
- Headache and migraine pain
- Dental pain and neuralgia
- Period pain
- Rheumatic, muscular and back pain
- Feverishness and symptoms of cold and flu

How to Use
Always use this medicine exactly as described in the leaflet or as your pharmacist/doctor has told you.
Who can take it
- Adults, the elderly and children/adolescents aged 12–18 years
- Not for children under 12 years
Dose (ages 12+):
- Take 1 or 2 capsules with water, up to 3 times a day as required
- Leave at least 4 hours between doses
- Maximum 6 capsules in 24 hours
How long to use
- Ages 12–18: if needed for more than 3 days, or symptoms worsen, consult a doctor
- Adults: do not take for longer than 10 days unless your doctor tells you to; if symptoms persist/worsen, seek advice
Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest time to relieve symptoms.
Ingredients
Active ingredient (per capsule):
- Ibuprofen 200mg
Other ingredients:
Macrogol 600, Potassium hydroxide 50% solution (E525), Gelatin, Sorbitol Liquid (partially dehydrated) (E420), Purified water, Ponceau 4R (E124), Lecithin (E322) or Phosphatidylcholine in medium chain triglycerides, Triglycerides (medium chain), Ethanol.
Capsule printing ink: Titanium dioxide (E171), Polyvinyl acetate phthalate, Macrogol 400, Ammonium hydroxide (E527), Propylene glycol.
Side Effects & Warnings
Do not take this medicine if you:
- Are allergic to ibuprofen, any ingredient, aspirin or other painkillers
- Have (or have had) 2 or more episodes of stomach ulcer, perforation or bleeding
- Have had worsening asthma, rash, itchy runny nose or facial swelling with ibuprofen/aspirin/NSAIDs
- Have had gastrointestinal bleeding/perforation with NSAIDs
- Are taking other NSAID painkillers or more than 75mg aspirin daily
- Have severe liver or kidney problems
- Have certain heart problems/high blood pressure/blood clotting disorder or breathing difficulties
- Are in the last 3 months of pregnancy, or are breastfeeding
- Are under 12 years old
Speak to a pharmacist/doctor before use if you: have asthma; kidney, heart, liver or bowel problems; high cholesterol; previous heart attack or stroke; history of ulcerative colitis/Crohn’s; SLE; you smoke; you are in the first 6 months of pregnancy; or you have an infection (ibuprofen can mask fever/pain and may delay treatment).
Important ingredient warnings:
- Contains sorbitol (a source of fructose)
- Contains Ponceau 4R (E124) which may cause allergic reactions
- Contains potassium (14mg per capsule): consider if you have reduced kidney function or are on a controlled potassium diet
Possible side effects (seek urgent advice if serious):
- Signs of allergic reaction (breathing problems, swelling of face/neck, chest pain): stop taking and seek urgent medical help
- Gastrointestinal bleeding/ulcer (e.g., black stools, vomiting blood), severe stomach pain
- Serious skin reactions (including severe rash, blistering/peeling): stop and seek immediate medical attention
- If you take too much, contact a doctor/hospital immediately (overdose can be dangerous).
