Product Overview
Rapilose ready-to-drink OGTT solution 300 ml delivers 75 g anhydrous glucose for oral glucose tolerance tests. Orange flavoured, gluten & lactose free, no mixing required.
Description
Rapilose Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT) Solution – 300 ml is a ready-to-drink glucose solution formulated to provide the standard 75 g dose of anhydrous glucose required for oral glucose tolerance testing (OGTT) in adults, in line with World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines for screening and diagnosing gestational and overt diabetes.
The product comes in a 300 ml aluminium pouch with a tamper-evident twist-off cap and a pleasant orange flavour that is non-carbonated and contains no colour additives — making it easy to drink quickly without pre-mixing or measuring.
Rapilose OGTT Solution is gluten-free, lactose-free, fat-free, caffeine-free and alcohol-free, and is a cost-effective, ready-to-use alternative to traditional glucose powders or syrups, useful in clinical, community or pharmacy-based testing.
Brand: Rapilose® (commonly supplied by Penlan Healthcare/marketed for OGTT use).
Size: 300 ml pouch
Glucose Dose: Contains ~75 g anhydrous glucose — the adult standard OGTT dose.
How to Use
- Fasting: Prior to testing, the patient should fast for at least 9 hours with only plain water allowed. Follow clinical guidelines for patient preparation.
- Initial Blood Sample: Take a fasting blood sample per local clinical protocol.
- Consume Solution: Open the pouch and drink the entire 300 ml Rapilose OGTT Solution (75 g glucose) within 5–10 minutes.
- Post-Load Testing: After 2 hours, collect a second blood sample as directed to assess glucose tolerance according to WHO or local clinical standards.
- Paediatric Dosing: If used for children under 43 kg, the dose should be adjusted clinically (typically ~7 ml per kg body weight, not exceeding 300 ml).
Important: This product is for use within organised glucose tolerance testing and should be administered by trained personnel or under clinician guidance, following NHS pharmacy/clinical standard operating procedures.
