Description
Treathay 120mg – Pack of 30 is a once-daily antihistamine containing fexofenadine hydrochloride 120mg. It helps relieve the symptoms of hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis) by reducing the effects of histamine associated with allergic reactions.
What it’s used for
For adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over, Treathay can help relieve hay fever symptoms such as:
- Sneezing
- Itchy, runny or blocked nose
- Red, itchy and watery eyes
How quickly it works: starts to relieve symptoms within 1 hour and lasts for 24 hours.
How to Use
Always take this medicine exactly as described in the leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
Dose
- Adults and adolescents (12 years and over): 1 tablet (120mg) once daily
- Do not take more than 1 tablet in 24 hours.
- Not recommended for children under 12 years.
How to take
- Take the tablet with water before a meal.
If symptoms persist
- If symptoms persist or worsen, stop use and consult a doctor or pharmacist.
If you take too many / miss a dose
- Taking too many: seek urgent advice. Common overdose signs include dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue and dry mouth.
- Missed dose: take the next dose at the usual time. Do not take a double dose.
Ingredients
Active ingredient (per film-coated tablet):
- Fexofenadine hydrochloride 120mg (equivalent to 112mg fexofenadine)
Other ingredients:
- Tablet core: Microcrystalline cellulose, maize starch, magnesium stearate, croscarmellose sodium, povidone
- Film coating: Hypromellose (E464), macrogol (PEG 400), macrogol (PEG 4000), titanium dioxide (E171), iron oxide yellow (E172), iron oxide red (E172)
Sodium: less than 1 mmol sodium (23mg) per tablet (essentially “sodium-free”).
Side Effects & Warnings
Do not take Treathay if
- You are allergic to fexofenadine or any of the ingredients.
Talk to a doctor or pharmacist before taking if you
- Have liver or kidney problems
- Are elderly
- Have or have ever had heart problems, as antihistamines may cause fast heartbeat (tachycardia) or palpitations
Pregnancy and breast-feeding
- Ask for advice if you are pregnant, breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning a baby.
- Treathay should not be taken during pregnancy or whilst breast-feeding unless advised by a doctor.
Other medicines and Treathay
- Indigestion remedies containing aluminium or magnesium can reduce absorption; leave about 2 hours between Treathay and these remedies.
- If you are taking apalutamide, the effect of fexofenadine may be decreased.
Driving and using machines
- Treathay is unlikely to affect driving or operating machinery, but check you are not sleepy or dizzy first.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, Treathay can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Stop taking and seek urgent medical help if you get signs of a serious allergic reaction:
- Swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat and difficulty breathing
Reported side effects include:
- Common (up to 1 in 10): headache, drowsiness, nausea, dizziness
- Uncommon (up to 1 in 100): tiredness/sleepiness
- Not known: difficulty sleeping (insomnia), sleep disorders, bad dreams, nervousness, fast/irregular heartbeat, diarrhoea, rash/itching, hives, flushing/chest tightness, difficulty breathing, blurred vision
