Viscotears Eye Gel - 10g

Viscotears Eye Gel 0.2% (10g) is a sterile lubricating eye gel containing carbomer (polyacrylic acid). It is used to make your eyes more comfortable when they feel dry, and belongs to a group of products commonly called “artificial tears”.

The gel forms a moisturising film over the eye surface to help relieve symptoms associated with dry eyes, including:

• Soreness, dryness and irritation
• Burning and gritty/foreign-body sensation
• Dryness linked to everyday triggers (heated rooms, air-conditioning, wind, prolonged screen use)

What’s in the pack: 1 × 10g tube.

For use in the eyes only.

Dose

• Adults (including the elderly): 1 drop in each affected eye 3 to 4 times a day.

Step-by-step

1. Wash your hands.
2. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before using the gel (see “Warnings”).
3. Hold the tube vertically, tilt your head back, and gently pull down the lower eyelid.
4. Look upwards and squeeze the tube gently to place one drop into the eye.
5. Blink a few times to spread the gel evenly; wipe away any excess from around the eyelids.

Using other eye medicines

• If using other eye drops/ointments, wait at least 5 minutes between each medicine. Viscotears should be the last eye drops used.

After opening

• Do not use later than 4 weeks after first opening.

Active ingredient

• Carbomer (polyacrylic acid) 2.0 mg/g (0.2%)

Other ingredients

• Cetrimide (preservative)
• Sorbitol
• Sodium hydroxide
• Water

Do not use

• If you are allergic to carbomer or any ingredient listed above.

Contact lenses

• Contains cetrimide, which may cause eye irritation and can discolour soft contact lenses.
• Remove contact lenses before use and wait at least 15 minutes before putting them back in.

Important warnings (pharmacy/SOP style)

• Use only in the eye(s).
• Do not touch the tip to the eye/eyelids/skin or any surface (risk of injury and contamination).
• Stop use and seek advice if you develop eye pain, vision changes, persistent redness/irritation, or if the condition worsens or persists.
• Temporary blurred vision may occur immediately after use; wait until vision clears before driving or using machinery.

Possible side effects

• Very common: blurred vision
• Common: eye discomfort, eyelid crusting, eye irritation
• Uncommon: eye swelling, eye pain, itchy eye, eye redness, increased tear production; skin inflammation
• Frequency not known: allergic reactions (may include itching, redness, swelling or pain of the eye, or rash/swelling around the eye)

Storage

• Do not store above 25°C.
• Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
