Acetazolamide - 28 tablets

Acetazolamide 250 mg Tablets are a prescription-only medicine used to treat a range of conditions where reduction of fluid pressure or abnormal electrical activity is required. Acetazolamide belongs to a group of medicines called carbonic anhydrase inhibitors.

It is commonly prescribed for:

• Glaucoma – to reduce pressure inside the eye
• Fluid retention (oedema) – acts as a mild diuretic
• Epilepsy – as an add-on treatment to help control seizures

By reducing the production of certain fluids in the body, acetazolamide helps lower eye pressure, remove excess fluid, and support seizure control when used under medical supervision.

How to Take

• Swallow tablets whole with water
• Take just before or just after food
• Tablets can be split into halves or quarters if required

Typical Doses (Guidance Only)

Your doctor will decide the correct dose based on your condition.

• Glaucoma (adults):
• 250–1000 mg daily in divided doses
• Fluid retention:
• Usually 250–375 mg once daily in the morning
• Epilepsy:
• Adults: 250–1000 mg daily in divided doses
• Children: dose based on body weight (maximum 750 mg daily)

Important Use Advice

• Do not exceed the prescribed dose
• Blood tests may be required during treatment
• If a dose is missed, take it when remembered unless close to the next dose
• Do not double dose

• Maize starch
• Calcium hydrogen phosphate
• Povidone K-30
• Sodium starch glycolate (Type A)
• Magnesium stearate

Contains less than 1 mmol sodium per tablet (essentially sodium-free).

Do Not Take If You

• Are allergic to acetazolamide or sulphonamides
• Have severe kidney or liver disease
• Have Addison’s disease
• Have low sodium or potassium levels
• Have chronic non-congestive angle-closure glaucoma

Warnings & Precautions

Speak to a doctor or pharmacist before use if you:

• Have kidney stones or lung disease
• Are over 65 years of age
• Have a history of depression or suicidal thoughts
• Are taking medicines for epilepsy, heart conditions, diabetes, blood thinning, or glaucoma

⚠ Rare but serious skin reactions have been reported. Seek urgent medical advice if severe rash, blistering, or skin peeling occurs.
