Almotriptan Migraine Relief - 12.5mg - 3 Tablets

Almotriptan 12.5mg Tablets contain almotriptan, an anti-migraine medicine from the triptan group. It is used to relieve migraine attacks with or without aura and works by narrowing widened blood vessels in the head linked to migraine symptoms.

This medicine is for the acute treatment of migraine attacks and should be taken once a migraine has started. It is not used to prevent migraine attacks or to treat other types of headache.

The tablets are white to off-white, round, and biconvex film-coated tablets. This presentation is available in a 3-tablet blister pack, making it suitable for short-course migraine treatment when needed.

Take Almotriptan exactly as directed by your doctor, prescriber or pharmacist. The usual adult dose for ages 18 to 65 years is one 12.5mg tablet, taken as early as possible after the start of a migraine attack. The tablet should be swallowed with water and can be taken with or without food.

If the first migraine attack does not settle, do not take more than one tablet for that same attack. If a second migraine attack happens within 24 hours, a second 12.5mg tablet can be taken, but there must be at least 2 hours between doses. Do not take more than two 12.5mg tablets in 24 hours.

If you have severe kidney disease, do not take more than one 12.5mg tablet in 24 hours. If you forget a dose, do not take a double dose to make up for it.

Active ingredient:

Each film-coated tablet contains 12.5mg almotriptan as almotriptan malate.

Tablet core ingredients:

Mannitol (E421), microcrystalline cellulose, povidone, sodium starch glycolate Type A, sodium stearyl fumarate.

Coating ingredients:

Hypromellose (E464), titanium dioxide (E171), macrogol 400, carnauba wax.

Additional advice:

This medicine contains less than 1 mmol sodium (23 mg) per tablet, so it is essentially sodium-free.

Do not take Almotriptan if you are allergic to almotriptan or any of the ingredients, if you have a history of heart attack, angina, heart problems related to reduced blood supply, stroke, reduced blood flow to the brain, peripheral vascular disease, severe liver disease, severe hypertension, or uncontrolled mild to moderate high blood pressure. It should also not be taken with ergotamine, dihydroergotamine, methysergide, or other triptans such as sumatriptan.

Speak to a doctor or pharmacist before use if your migraine has not been diagnosed, if your symptoms are different from your usual migraine pattern, if you are allergic to sulphonamides, if you have mild to moderate liver disease, severe kidney disease, are over 65, or if you have cardiovascular risk factors such as high cholesterol, obesity, diabetes, smoking, family history of heart disease, being male over 40, or postmenopausal status.

Important medicine interactions include SSRIs, SNRIs, St John’s Wort, and ergotamine-containing products. There is a risk of serotonin syndrome with some antidepressants. Wait at least 6 hours after almotriptan before taking ergotamine, and at least 24 hours after ergotamine before taking almotriptan.

Possible side effects can include drowsiness, and there have also been reports of abdominal pain and bloody diarrhoea. Do not drive or use machines if you feel drowsy. During breast-feeding, avoid breast-feeding for 24 hours after taking a dose. Children under 18 years should not use this medicine.
