Cetraben Cream - 500g

Eczmol is a moisturising and antimicrobial emollient cream, which can also be used as an alternative to soap. It forms a protective barrier on the skin and helps to retain moisture in deeper layers of the skin. This helps to prevent and treat dryness and itching which are common problems for people with eczema and dry skin conditions. The active ingredient, chlorhexidine gluconate, is an antimicrobial which helps combat germs on the skin that make certain types of eczema worse.

Directions for use: 

Do not use if tamper evident collar is broken or missing at first use. Prime the pump before first use by depressing fully until cream appears. If the pump stops working do not dismantle the pack. Re-start by covering the nozzle, then fully depress the pump several times to expel air.

• Eczmol cream is for external use on the skin only. 

Adults, the elderly, infants and children: 

• For application to the skin – apply the cream to the affected area and massage into the skin until absorbed. Repeat as often as required.
• For use as a soap substitute – use in place of an ordinary soap or shower gel. Ensure the water is warm but not too hot as this can remove your skin’s natural oils. Pat dry with a soft towel after washing. Avoid rubbing too much as this can make dry skin conditions worse

Before you use Eczmol: 

• Talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse before using Eczmol.
• Do not use if you are allergic to chlorhexidine gluconate or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

Active ingredients:

• The active substance is Chlorhexidine gluconate 1% w/w.

Other ingredients include:

• Cetostearyl alcohol
• Macrogol cetostearyl ether
• Isopropyl alcohol
• Liquid paraffin
• White soft paraffin
• Water.

Cetostearyl alcohol may cause local skin reactions such as contact dermatitis in some individuals.

Warnings and precautions: 

• Eczmol may in rare cases cause severe allergic reactions leading to a drop in blood pressure and even to unconsciousness. Contact your doctor as soon as possible (see under ‘Possible Side Effects’ for further details).
• Avoid contact with the brain, meninges (the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord) and middle ear. If any cream gets into the ears, remove by very careful swabbing.
• Eczmol must not come into contact with the eye due to the risk of visual damage. If it comes into contact with the eyes, wash out immediately and thoroughly with water. In case of any irritation, redness or pain in the eye, or visual disturbance, ask for medical advice promptly. Serious cases of persistent corneal injury (injury to the surface of the eye) potentially requiring corneal transplant have been reported when similar products have accidentally come into contact with the eye during surgical procedures in patients under general anaesthesia (deep painless sleep).
• This product may be less effective if mixed with soap or detergents.
• Local skin irritation/rashes are more common if you use this product to treat skin problems on your lower legs (such as ulcers or dry itchy rash).
• If it comes into contact with fabrics, brown stains may develop if you use bleach to remove it.
• If you swallow this product go to your nearest accident and emergency department. If a significant amount is swallowed, you may experience a feeling of drunkenness, feeling sick, vomiting, slurred speech, a staggering walk and drowsiness. Ingestion of larger amounts may result in stomach upsets and liver damage
• Do not smoke or go near naked flames - risk of severe burns. Fabric (clothing, bedding, dressings etc) that has been in contact with this product burns more easily and is a serious fire hazard. Washing clothing and bedding may reduce product build-up but not totally remove it.
• This product can make skin and surfaces slippery. Take additional care after use, especially when entering or leaving bath/shower.

Possible side effects:

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. 

Serious side effects:

If you experience any of the following reactions stop using Eczmol and seek immediate medical help: Swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat; wheezing or difficulty breathing; feeling faint and dizzy; a strange metallic taste in the mouth; collapse. You may be having an allergic reaction.

Other possible side effects, for which it is not known how often they occur, are: 

•  Allergic skin reactions such as dermatitis (inflammation of the skin), pruritus (itch), erythema (redness of the skin), eczema, rash, urticaria (hives), skin irritation and
• Corneal injury (injury to the surface of the eye), and permanent eye damage including permanent visual impairment (following accidental ocular exposure during head, face and neck surgical procedures) in patients under general anaesthesia (deep painless sleep).

If irritation occurs, discontinue use and seek medical advice.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding:

Eczmol may be used during pregnancy and breast feeding. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine when you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, are planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. 

How to Store Eczmol: 

• Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
• Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the label.
• Store below 30°C.
• Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste.
• Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicines you no longer use. These measures will help protect the environment.
