Product Overview
Dermacort are used for the treatment of skin irritations, dermatitis and rashes due to reactions to plants, insect bites, jewellery, toiletries, deodorants, soaps and detergents.
Description
Dermacort Hydrocortisone Cream 1% (15g) is a mild topical corticosteroid used to relieve inflammation, redness, itching and swelling associated with a range of mild inflammatory skin conditions.
It is commonly used in pharmacy practice for short-term treatment of:
- Mild eczema and dermatitis
- Insect bite and sting reactions
- Allergic skin rashes
- Irritant or contact dermatitis
- Mild allergic reactions on the skin
Dermacort contains hydrocortisone 1%, which works by reducing inflammation in the skin. It is suitable for adults and children aged 10 years and over when used as directed.

How to Use
Always use this medicine exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as advised by a pharmacist.
- Apply a thin layer to the affected area
- Use once or twice daily
- Gently rub in until absorbed
Duration of use:
- Do not use for more than 7 days unless advised by a doctor
- If symptoms do not improve or worsen after 7 days, seek medical advice
Important usage advice:
- Wash hands before and after application (unless treating hands)
- Do not apply more often than recommended
- For external use only
- Avoid use on large areas of skin
Ingredients
Active ingredient:
- Hydrocortisone 1% w/w (as hydrocortisone acetate)
Other ingredients include:
- Cetostearyl alcohol
- Chlorocresol (preservative)
- Macrogol cetostearyl ether
- Liquid paraffin
- White soft paraffin
- Purified water
Cetostearyl alcohol may cause local skin reactions (e.g. contact dermatitis).

Side Effects & Warnings
Do not use Dermacort Hydrocortisone Cream:
- On broken, infected or ulcerated skin
- On acne, rosacea, perioral dermatitis or genital itching unless advised by a doctor
- In children under 10 years of age
- On the face unless directed by a healthcare professional
- Near the eyes or on eyelids
Warnings & precautions:
- Use the lowest effective amount for the shortest duration
- Prolonged or excessive use may cause skin thinning
- Avoid occlusive dressings (e.g. airtight bandages) unless advised
- If signs of infection develop, stop use and seek medical advice
Possible side effects (uncommon):
- Burning, stinging or irritation at the application site
- Worsening of symptoms with prolonged use
