Description
Dioralyte® Sachets Blackcurrant are an oral rehydration therapy (ORT) used to help replace fluids and essential salts lost due to diarrhoea and vomiting.
Dioralyte® works by restoring the body’s natural balance of water, electrolytes and glucose, helping to prevent or treat dehydration. It is suitable for adults, children and the elderly when used as directed and is commonly recommended for gastroenteritis, stomach upsets, food poisoning and travel-related diarrhoea.
The blackcurrant flavour is designed to improve palatability, particularly for children, helping encourage regular fluid intake during illness.

How to Use
Always follow the instructions on the label or patient information leaflet.
- Empty the contents of one sachet into 200ml of freshly boiled and cooled water.
- Stir until fully dissolved.
- Do not add sugar or dilute further.
Recommended use:
- Take small, frequent sips, especially if nausea or vomiting is present.
- Continue for as long as diarrhoea or vomiting persists.
General guidance:
- Adults: May take 1–2 sachets after each loose stool.
- Children: Dose depends on age and body weight – follow leaflet guidance or pharmacist advice.
Fresh solution should be prepared daily and any unused solution discarded after 24 hours.
- If symptoms persist beyond 48 hours, seek medical advice.
Ingredients
Each sachet contains a balanced mixture of:
- Glucose
- Sodium chloride
- Potassium chloride
- Disodium hydrogen citrate
Also contains:
- Blackcurrant flavouring
- Sweetening and stabilising excipients

Side Effects & Warnings
- For oral use only.
- Do not use if you have severe kidney disease, bowel obstruction, or are unable to drink fluids unless advised by a healthcare professional.
- Consult a pharmacist or GP before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, diabetic, or on a controlled sodium or potassium diet.
Possible side effects are uncommon but may include mild stomach upset or nausea.
Seek medical advice urgently if:
- Diarrhoea or vomiting lasts longer than 48 hours
- There are signs of severe dehydration (dry mouth, drowsiness, reduced urine output)
- There is blood in the stool, fever, or severe abdominal pain
- Diarrhoea occurs in infants, elderly patients, or those with chronic illness
Important:
Dioralyte® helps replace lost fluids and salts but does not treat the underlying cause of diarrhoea.
