Description
Ibugel Ibuprofen 5% Gel – 100g is an anti-inflammatory painkiller gel that’s applied to, and absorbed through, the skin to help relieve pain and reduce swelling and inflammation.
What it’s used for
For the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions including:
- Backache
- Rheumatic or muscular pain
- Sprains and strains
- Neuralgia
- Pain relief in common arthritic conditions

- Contains ibuprofen 5% w/w (a topical NSAID)
How to Use
Always use exactly as described in the leaflet or as advised by a doctor or pharmacist.
Who can use it
- Adults, the elderly and children over 12 years
- Children under 12 years: only if recommended by a doctor
How to apply
- Use up to three times a day, or as often as advised by your doctor.
- Apply to intact (unbroken) skin over the painful area.
- Apply only enough gel to thinly cover the affected area, then massage gently until absorbed.
- Wash hands after use (unless treating the hands).
How long to use
- Continue until your condition improves (you may need to use it for a few weeks). If symptoms worsen or continue for more than a few weeks, speak to a doctor before continuing.
- Seek medical advice if you do not feel better or feel worse after 14 days.
If it gets where it shouldn’t
- If it contacts broken skin or gets into eyes, nose or mouth, rinse with plenty of water. If irritation persists, seek advice.
- If accidentally swallowed, seek urgent advice.

- Ibuprofen 5% w/w
Other ingredients:
- Industrial methylated spirit, carbomers, propylene glycol (E1520), diethylamine, purified water
Side Effects & Warnings
Do not use Ibugel
- If you are allergic to ibuprofen or any ingredients
- If you are asthmatic or have had reactions (e.g., rhinitis/urticaria) after aspirin, ibuprofen or other NSAIDs
- If you are pregnant or breast-feeding
- On broken, damaged, infected or diseased skin
Speak to a doctor or pharmacist before use if you have
- A history of stomach (peptic) ulcer, kidney problems, asthma, or prior bad reaction to aspirin/ibuprofen taken by mouth
Important precautions
- For skin use only. Keep away from eyes, nose and mouth
- Do not use on children under 12 unless advised by a doctor
- Fire risk: Do not smoke or go near naked flames. Fabric in contact with the product can burn more easily (washing may reduce build-up but may not remove it completely).
- Possible interaction (theoretical/very unlikely) with blood pressure-lowering medicines and anticoagulants; talk to a pharmacist/doctor if unsure.
- If taking aspirin or other NSAIDs by mouth, ask for advice before using.
Possible side effects
- Occasional mild skin rash, itching or irritation at the application site; skin may become sensitive to light
- Stop using and seek urgent medical advice if you develop serious skin reactions (severe rash, blistering/peeling) or allergic reactions (wheezing, chest tightness, swelling, dizziness).
- Rarely, kidney problems and digestive symptoms have been reported, particularly in people with relevant history.
Storage
- Keep out of the sight and reach of children. Store below 25°C and replace the cap tightly after use.
