Ibuleve Ibuprofen Gel - 100g

Ibuleve Ibuprofen Gel – 100g is an anti-inflammatory painkiller gel that is applied to, and absorbed through, the skin. It contains ibuprofen 5% w/w, an NSAID that works by relieving pain and reducing swelling and inflammation.

For the treatment of common musculoskeletal pain, including:

• Backache
• Muscular pain and rheumatic pain
• Aches, pains and swellings
• Sprains, strains and sports injuries

What it’s like: a clear, colourless gel with no fragrance.

Always read the leaflet before use. Use only on the skin.

Who can use it:

• Adults, the elderly and children over 12 years
• Under 12s: only on the advice of a doctor

How often:

• Use up to 3 times a day, leaving 4 hours between applications

How much to apply (per application):

• Squeeze out a 4cm to 10cm length of gel onto the affected area
• Apply lightly to intact skin over the painful area and massage gently until absorbed
• Do not apply more than 30cm of gel in any 24-hour period
• Wash hands after use, unless treating the hands

How long to use:

• Continue for up to 2 weeks (or longer if your doctor recommends)
• If symptoms worsen or continue for more than 2 weeks, speak to a pharmacist or doctor before continuing

If it gets in eyes/nose/mouth or on broken skin: rinse with plenty of water; if irritation persists, seek advice.

If swallowed accidentally: seek medical help straight away. 

Active ingredient:

• Ibuprofen 5% w/w

Other ingredients:

• Industrial methylated spirit
• Carbomers
• Propylene glycol (E1520)
• Diethylamine
• Purified water

Contains: propylene glycol (E1520), which may cause skin irritation (20mg per gram). 

Do not use if:

• You are allergic to ibuprofen or any ingredient
• You have had a bad reaction to aspirin, ibuprofen or other NSAIDs (especially if you have asthma, rhinitis or hives)
• You are pregnant or breast-feeding
• On broken, damaged, infected or diseased skin
• You have severe joint pain of recent onset not linked to injury/overuse, or you feel unwell/feverish alongside the pain (seek medical advice)

Key warnings

• Fire hazard: Do not smoke or go near naked flames. Fabric (clothing, bedding, dressings) that has been in contact with this product can burn more easily. Washing may reduce build-up but may not remove it completely.
• Avoid contact with eyes, nose and mouth.
• Do not use under protective waterproof dressings.
• Protect treated areas from direct sunlight; skin may become sensitive to light.
• If you have (or have had) a stomach ulcer, kidney problems, or asthma, use only on advice from a doctor or pharmacist.
• If you take aspirin or other NSAIDs by mouth, speak to a pharmacist/doctor first (may increase risk of side effects).
• A theoretical interaction is possible with blood pressure medicines and anticoagulants, although unlikely; ask for advice if needed.

Possible side effects

Stop using and seek medical advice if you get troublesome irritation or symptoms of allergy. Possible effects include:

• Mild skin rash, itching or irritation at the application site
• Skin sensitivity to light
• Serious skin reactions (rare but serious) including severe rash/blistering/peeling, mouth ulcers or flu-like symptoms: stop use and seek urgent medical attention
• Allergic reactions, including worsening asthma/wheezing, swelling, widespread rash or light sensitivity
• Kidney problems (very rare), particularly in those with a history of kidney disease
• Digestive system problems such as stomach pain/heartburn (very rare), particularly in those with a history of ulcers
