Description
Nasonex® 50 micrograms Nasal Spray is a corticosteroid nasal spray used to relieve inflammation inside the nose. It contains mometasone furoate, which helps reduce swelling, irritation, sneezing, itching, and a blocked or runny nose caused by allergies.
It is commonly prescribed for:
- Hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis)
- Perennial allergic rhinitis (year-round allergies such as dust mite or pet dander)
- Nasal polyps in adults (18 years and over)
By calming inflammation in the nasal passages, Nasonex helps improve nasal breathing and provides effective, targeted allergy relief when used regularly.

How to Use
Always use this medicine exactly as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.
Hay Fever & Perennial Rhinitis
- Adults & children over 12 years:
- Two sprays into each nostril once daily
- Children aged 3–11 years:
- One spray into each nostril once daily
Nasal Polyps (Adults 18+)
- Two sprays into each nostril once daily
- Dose may be increased to twice daily if symptoms are not controlled after several weeks, on medical advice
Important Use Advice
- Use regularly for best results. Full benefit may take up to 2 days
- Prime the spray before first use
- Shake gently before each use
- Do not exceed the recommended dose
- If symptoms persist or worsen, speak to a pharmacist or doctor
Ingredients
Active ingredient
- Mometasone furoate 50 micrograms per spray (as monohydrate)
Other ingredients
- Dispersible cellulose
- Glycerol
- Sodium citrate
- Citric acid monohydrate
- Polysorbate 80
- Benzalkonium chloride
- Purified water
Contains 0.02 mg benzalkonium chloride per spray, which may cause nasal irritation with long-term use.
Side Effects & Warnings
Do Not Use If
- You are allergic to mometasone furoate or any ingredient
- You have an untreated infection in the nose
- You have recently had nasal surgery or injury (until healed)
Speak to a Doctor or Pharmacist Before Use If
- You have tuberculosis or another infection
- You are using other steroid medicines
- You have cystic fibrosis
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
Possible Side Effects
Most people use Nasonex without problems, but side effects may include:
- Headache
- Sneezing
- Nosebleeds
- Sore nose or throat
- Nasal ulcers
Rare but serious effects include allergic reactions (swelling of face or throat, difficulty breathing), vision changes, increased eye pressure (glaucoma), or damage to the nasal septum.
⚠ Stop use and seek medical help immediately if signs of a serious allergic reaction occur.
Children
Long-term use at high doses may affect growth. Growth should be monitored during prolonged treatment.
