Description
Nicorette® Fruitfusion Gum 2mg is a nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) used to relieve and/or prevent nicotine withdrawal symptoms and reduce cravings when you try to stop smoking tobacco or vaping, or when you are cutting down the number of cigarettes/e-cigarettes you use.
It can be used in three main ways:
- Stopping smoking/vaping by replacing cigarettes/e-cigarettes with the gum, then gradually reducing use until you stop completely
- Cutting down by replacing as many cigarettes/e-cigarettes as possible with the gum
- When you can’t or don’t want to smoke/vape (temporary abstinence), such as in smoke/vape-free areas or around others
Strength guide
- The 2mg strength is suitable if you smoke 20 or fewer cigarettes a day or are a light to moderate vaper (e.g., vape infrequently or use low strength e-liquid).
Pack size
- 105 pieces (blister-packed).
How to Use
Who can use it
- Adults and children aged 12 years and over.
- Do not give to children under 12 years.
Dose
- Use one 2mg gum as required to relieve cravings.
- Use only one piece at a time.
- Do not use more than 15 gums per day.
How to chew Nicorette gum (the chew-and-rest technique)
Nicorette gum is not chewed like ordinary gum. Chew correctly so nicotine is released and absorbed through the lining of the mouth. Chewing continuously can release nicotine too quickly and may irritate your throat, upset your stomach or cause hiccups.
- Chew slowly until the taste becomes strong.
- Rest the gum between your gum and cheek.
- Chew again when the taste has faded.
- Continue like this for about 30 minutes, then dispose of the gum carefully.
Dentures
- If you have false teeth, the gum may stick and on rare occasions damage dentures. If this is a problem, other forms of NRT may be more suitable.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Pregnancy: Try to stop without NRT first. If you can’t, NRT can be used as a safer alternative to smoking, but seek advice from a doctor, pharmacist or nurse.
- Breastfeeding: Try to stop without NRT first. If you can’t, intermittent NRT products (such as gum) are preferred. Breastfeed just before using the gum to minimise nicotine exposure to the baby.
Important ingredient warnings
- E321 (butylated hydroxytoluene) may cause local skin reactions (e.g. contact dermatitis) or irritation to eyes and mucous membranes.
- Contains polysorbate 80, which can cause allergic reactions.
Possible side effects
Nicorette gum can sometimes cause throat irritation at the start of treatment and increased salivation. Indigestion sufferers may experience heartburn/indigestion and may benefit from slower chewing.

Very common: headache, throat irritation, nausea, hiccups, sore mouth/throat.
Common: dizziness, cough, taste disturbance/loss of taste, stomach discomfort, diarrhoea, dry mouth, wind, increased salivation, sore/inflamed mouth, vomiting, indigestion, burning sensation in mouth, fatigue, hypersensitivity.
