Nicorette Icy White Gum 4mg - 105 Pieces

Nicorette® Icy White Gum 4mg is a nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) used to relieve and/or prevent nicotine withdrawal symptoms and reduce cravings when you:

• Stop smoking tobacco or vaping
• Cut down the number of cigarettes/e-cigarettes you use
• Need support during temporary abstinence (when you can’t or don’t want to smoke/vape, e.g. smoke/vape-free areas or around others).

Why 4mg?

The 4mg strength is intended for people who smoke more than 20 cigarettes a day or are heavy vapers (for example, vaping frequently or using high-strength e-liquid).

How it works

Chewed correctly, nicotine is released from the gum and absorbed through the lining of the mouth, helping take the edge off cravings so you can focus on quitting. Behavioural support alongside NRT can improve your chances of success.

Pack size: 105 pieces (square coated gum). 

Who can use it

• Adults and children aged 12 years and over
• Do not give to children under 12 years.

Dose

• If you smoke more than 20 cigarettes/day or are a heavy vaper: use one 4mg gum as required to relieve cravings.
• Use only one piece at a time.
• Do not use more than 15 gums per day.

How to chew (chew-and-rest technique)

Nicorette gum is not chewed like ordinary chewing gum. Chew to release nicotine, then rest to allow absorption through the mouth lining. Continuous chewing can release nicotine too quickly and may irritate the throat, upset the stomach, or cause hiccups.

1. Chew slowly until the taste becomes strong.
2. Rest the gum between your gum and cheek.
3. Chew again when the taste fades, repeating the cycle.

• Continue for about 30 minutes, then dispose of the gum safely.

If you have dentures

The gum may stick to dentures and, rarely, damage them. If this is a problem, another type of NRT may be more suitable. 

Active ingredient

• Nicotine 4mg per medicated chewing gum.

Other ingredients

Chewing gum base, xylitol, peppermint oil, anhydrous sodium carbonate, acesulfame potassium, levomenthol, magnesium oxide, talc, winterfresh, hypromellose, sucralose, polysorbate 80, starch, titanium dioxide (E171), carnauba wax.

Also contains

• Chewing gum base contains butylated hydroxy toluene (E321).
• The 4mg gum also contains quinoline yellow (E104).
• No sugar (sucrose) and no animal products. 

Important warnings

• Nicotine can be very dangerous to children and can be fatal if taken accidentally. Keep out of the sight and reach of children and animals and dispose of used gum safely.
• Do not give to children under 12 years.
• If you are pregnant or breastfeeding: try to stop without NRT first. If you can’t, nicotine gum can be used to help you stop smoking; the risks to your baby are far less than if you continue to smoke. Ask a doctor, pharmacist or nurse for advice.

Speak to a doctor, pharmacist or nurse before use if you:

Have certain medical conditions or take regular medicines, including:

• Heart or circulation problems (including being in hospital for heart disease)
• Stomach/duodenal ulcer, inflammation of the stomach or oesophagus
• Liver or kidney disease, overactive thyroid, phaeochromocytoma, diabetes
• History of seizures (fits)
• Taking medicines such as theophylline, clozapine or ropinirole (doses may need adjustment when you stop smoking/cut down).

Ingredient warnings

• Contains polysorbate 80, which can cause allergic reactions.
• Contains E321, which may cause local skin reactions (e.g. contact dermatitis) or irritation to eyes and mucous membranes.
• Contains less than 1 mmol sodium (23mg) per gum (essentially “sodium-free”).

Possible side effects

Some effects can happen when starting NRT or if the gum is chewed too quickly, including throat irritation, hiccups, and stomach upset. If you think you are having side effects or are unsure about anything, ask a doctor, pharmacist or nurse.

Side effects can be reported via the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.

Storage

• Do not store above 25°C.
• Do not use after the Use before date on the box/blister.
• Dispose of sensibly and away from children and animals.
