Description
Nytol Original 20 Tablets is a pharmacy medicine (P) containing diphenhydramine hydrochloride 50mg, a sedating antihistamine used for the short-term relief of temporary sleep disturbance (insomnia).
It is suitable for adults and young people aged 16 years and over who are experiencing difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep.
Diphenhydramine works by causing drowsiness, helping you to fall asleep more easily. It should only be used for short-term, occasional sleeplessness.

How to Use
Directions for Use:
- Adults and children aged 16 years and over:
- Take one tablet (50mg) with water 20 minutes before bedtime.
- Do not take more than one tablet in 24 hours.
- Do not use for more than 2 weeks continuously without medical advice.
If symptoms persist, consult your GP.

Side Effects & Warnings
Who should not take this medicine
• Under 16 years.
• Those with allergy to diphenhydramine hydrochloride or any listed ingredients.
• Avoid if you are pregnant or breastfeeding without medical/pharmacist guidance.
• Do not combine with other medicines that cause drowsiness, including alcohol.
Precautions (UK pharmacy-aligned):
• May cause drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision or reduced attention; if affected, do not drive or operate machinery.
• Avoid alcohol while using this medicine as it can increase sedation.
• Speak to a doctor or pharmacist if you have glaucoma, asthma, bronchitis, COPD, enlarged prostate, urinary retention, liver/kidney disease, epilepsy or seizure disorders, or if you take other sedative medicines.
• Not recommended in the elderly with confusion due to increased sensitivity.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, Nytol Original may cause side effects, although not everyone experiences them. Commonly reported include:
• Drowsiness, tiredness, dizziness or reduced attention.
• Dry mouth, blurred vision, headache.
Some uncommon reactions may occur; if side effects are severe, persistent or worrying, stop use and seek medical advice promptly.
Overdose warning
Taking more than the recommended dose can cause excessive sedation and other serious symptoms. In the event of overdose, seek urgent medical attention.
Storage
• Store in original packaging below 25 °C, protected from moisture and light.
• Keep out of sight and reach of children.
• Do not use after the expiry date shown on the pack.
