Opticrom Allergy Eye Drops - 10ml

Opticrom Allergy Eye Drops 10ml are anti-allergy eye drops containing sodium cromoglicate 2% w/v. They are used for the prevention and treatment of eye allergies (allergic conjunctivitis), including:

• Seasonal allergic conjunctivitis (hayfever) caused by pollens
• Perennial allergic conjunctivitis that can occur all year round (e.g. house dust mites, pet allergens)

Opticrom works by stopping the release of natural substances in the eye that trigger allergic reactions, helping relieve common allergy eye symptoms such as:

• Itchy eyes
• Watery eyes
• Red or inflamed eyes
• Puffy eyelids

Important: If your eyes do not feel better, or feel worse, after 2 days, seek advice from a pharmacist or doctor. 

For use in the eyes only.

Dose (Adults and children)

• Instil 1 or 2 drops into each eye, 4 times a day, or as directed by your doctor.

How to apply (pharmacy-style steps)

1. Wash your hands.
2. Before first use, check the tamper-proof seal is unbroken (a small gap between cap and bottle can be normal on unopened bottles).
3. Remove the cap and tilt your head back.
4. Gently pull down the lower eyelid and squeeze 1–2 drops inside the lower lid without touching the eye with the dropper tip.
5. Close the eye, wipe away excess with a clean tissue, recap immediately. Repeat for the other eye if needed.

Missed dose

• Use as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not use a double dose.

How long to use

• Continue using while you are exposed to the allergen(s); symptoms may return if you stop too soon.

Active ingredient

• Sodium cromoglicate 2.0% w/v (20mg per 1ml)

Other ingredients

• Disodium edetate
• Benzalkonium chloride
• Water for injections

Do not use

• If you are allergic to sodium cromoglicate or any ingredient in the drops. Signs can include rash, swelling, breathing/swallowing problems, or worsening redness/itching/swelling of the eye/eyelid.

Contact lenses

• If you wear soft contact lenses, speak to a pharmacist/doctor before use. The leaflet states you should not wear contact lenses while using these drops.
• These drops contain benzalkonium chloride, which may be absorbed by soft lenses and may change their colour. Remove lenses before use and wait 15 minutes before reinserting.

Possible side effects

• Stinging or burning in the eyes or blurred vision immediately after use (usually short-lived).
• Mild eye irritation.
• Stop using and seek medical advice urgently if itching, redness or swelling gets worse (possible allergy).

Driving and machinery

• You may have blurred eyesight straight after use. Do not drive or use machinery until vision is clear.

Storage / in-use shelf life

• After opening: do not store above 25°C and discard 4 weeks after opening.
