Product Overview
Sumatriptan Migraine Relief 50mg tablets are used for the acute treatment of migraine attacks in adults who have previously been diagnosed with migraine, helping to relieve headache and associated symptoms such as nausea and sensitivity to light or sound.
Description
Sumatriptan Migraine Relief 50mg Tablets contain sumatriptan, which belongs to a group of medicines called 5HT agonists, also known as triptans. The official leaflet says they are used to relieve migraine attacks that happen with or without warning signs such as aura, in people who have previously been diagnosed with migraine. They work by helping to reduce swelling of blood vessels in the head, which can help relieve migraine headache and related symptoms.
This medicine is intended for the acute treatment of migraine and should be taken once an attack has started. It is not intended to prevent migraine attacks. The leaflet specifically positions it as a non-prescription migraine relief option for appropriate adults who already know their symptoms are migraine.
How to Use
Always take this medicine exactly as described in the leaflet or as your pharmacist has told you. The official leaflet says the tablets should be taken as soon as possible after the start of a migraine attack, although they may still work if taken later during the attack. Swallow the tablet whole with water.
The leaflet states that the recommended dose is one 50mg tablet. If your migraine gets better and then comes back, you may take a second tablet, provided that at least 2 hours have passed since the first tablet. Do not take more than 300mg in 24 hours, which is equivalent to six 50mg tablets in one day.
If the first tablet does not help, do not take a second tablet for the same attack. You may still use sumatriptan for a different migraine attack later on. This medicine is only appropriate for adults who have previously been diagnosed with migraine.

Side Effects & Warnings
Do not take sumatriptan unless you have been previously diagnosed with migraine. This medicine is intended for migraine attacks and is not suitable for headaches that have not been identified as migraine.
As with other sumatriptan products, important warnings include avoiding use if you have certain heart or circulation problems, a history of stroke or TIA, severe liver disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or if you are taking other triptans, ergotamine-type medicines, or MAOIs. These warnings are consistently reflected across official sumatriptan leaflets on medicines.org.uk.
Possible side effects can include dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, flushing, shortness of breath, and sensations such as tightness, pressure, heaviness, tingling, heat or cold in different parts of the body. Serious side effects needing urgent attention can include allergic reactions, severe chest symptoms, seizures, or symptoms suggesting a stroke.
This medicine may cause drowsiness or dizziness, either because of the migraine itself or the treatment, so do not drive or operate machinery if affected.
