Description
Beechams Cold & Flu Hot Lemon is a medicated hot drink powder for the short-term relief of the symptoms of flu, colds and chills. It helps relieve headache, shivers, aches and pains, sore throat, plus blocked nose and painful sinuses and catarrh.
It contains:
- Paracetamol to relieve pain and reduce a high temperature (fever).
- Phenylephrine hydrochloride (a decongestant) to help unblock the nose and sinuses.
- Vitamin C (ascorbic acid).
Format: hot lemon flavoured powder for oral solution. Pack size: 10 sachets.
How to Use
Always take this medicine exactly as described in the leaflet or as advised by your pharmacist/doctor.
Adults and children aged 12 years and over
- Empty one sachet into a mug.
- Half fill with very hot water and stir well.
- Add cold water as necessary (and sugar if desired).
Dose
- Take 1 sachet every 4 hours as needed.
- Do not take more frequently than every 4 hours.
- Maximum 6 sachets in 24 hours.
Age restriction
- Do not give to children under 12 years.
Duration of use
- Do not take for more than 7 days without medical advice.
If symptoms persist, worsen, or are accompanied by high fever, skin rash, or persistent headache, seek medical advice.
Ingredients
Active ingredients (per sachet / per dose):
- Paracetamol 600mg
- Phenylephrine Hydrochloride 10mg
- Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) 40mg
Other ingredients:
Sucrose, sodium citrate, citric acid, maize starch, sodium cyclamate, saccharin sodium, colloidal anhydrous silica, lemon flavour, natural curcumin (E100).
Contains:
- Sucrose 4g per dose (important for people with diabetes).
- Sodium 0.12g per dose (consider if on a controlled sodium diet).
Side Effects & Warnings
Contains paracetamol. Do not take with any other paracetamol-containing products. Do not take with any other cold, flu or decongestant products.
Do not take if:
- You have ever had an allergic reaction to paracetamol, phenylephrine, or any ingredient.
- You have kidney or liver problems, overactive thyroid, diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart/circulation disease.
- You have glaucoma or phaeochromocytoma, or an enlarged prostate.
- You are taking beta-blockers, tricyclic antidepressants, or have taken MAOIs in the last 2 weeks.
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding unless advised by a doctor.
Take care / speak to a pharmacist or doctor before use if:
- You have blood vessel disease such as Raynaud’s phenomenon.
- You are taking prescribed medicines, especially metoclopramide/domperidone, colestyramine, warfarin/anticoagulants, digoxin, or ergotamine/methysergide.
May cause dizziness. If affected, do not drive or operate machinery.
Possible side effects (stop taking and seek medical advice urgently):
- Allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling of mouth/face, shortness of breath).
- Skin rash/peeling or mouth ulcers.
- Breathing problems (more likely if you’ve had this with other painkillers).
- Unexplained bruising/bleeding, recurring fevers/infections, or signs of liver problems (e.g., yellowing of eyes/skin, nausea, loss of appetite).
- Visual disturbances (rare; more likely with glaucoma), fast/irregular heartbeat, or difficulty passing urine.
Overdose warning: Seek immediate medical advice if too much is taken, even if you feel well, due to the risk of delayed, serious liver damage.
