Description
Beechams Flu-Plus Caplets provide effective relief from major cold and flu symptoms, including headache, shivers, aches and pains, blocked nose and painful sinuses, catarrh, sore throat, fatigue and tiredness.
Each caplet combines:
- Paracetamol to relieve pain and reduce fever
- Phenylephrine hydrochloride (a decongestant) to help unblock the nose and sinuses
- Caffeine as a mild stimulant to help relieve fatigue and tiredness
Pack size: 16 caplets.
How to Use
Always take this medicine exactly as described in the leaflet or as advised by your pharmacist/doctor.
Adults aged 16 years and over (including the elderly):
- Take 2 caplets every 4 to 6 hours as required
- Do not take more than 8 caplets (4 doses) in 24 hours
- Do not take more frequently than every 4 hours
- Do not take for more than 7 days without asking your doctor
Children:
- Do not give to children under 16 years of age
Practical advice:
- Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest time.
- Avoid too much caffeine in drinks (coffee/tea/energy drinks) while taking this product.
If you take too much:
- Seek immediate medical advice, even if you feel well (risk of delayed, serious liver damage).
Ingredients
Active ingredients (per caplet):
- Paracetamol 500mg
- Phenylephrine Hydrochloride 5mg
- Caffeine 25mg
Other ingredients:
Starch pregelatinised, maize starch, povidone, potassium sorbate (E202), sodium lauryl sulfate, sunset yellow (E110), stearic acid, talc, microcrystalline cellulose, hypromellose, macrogol 400, titanium dioxide (E171), quinoline yellow lake (E104).
Side Effects & Warnings
Important warnings
- Contains paracetamol. Do not take with any other paracetamol-containing products.
- Do not take with any other flu, cold or decongestant product.
- May cause dizziness. If affected, do not drive or operate machinery.
Do not take if you:
- Have ever had an allergic reaction to paracetamol, phenylephrine, caffeine, or any listed ingredient (colour Sunset Yellow E110 can cause allergic-type reactions including asthma).
- Have kidney or liver problems, overactive thyroid, diabetes, high blood pressure or heart disease.
- Have phaeochromocytoma or glaucoma.
- Are taking tricyclic antidepressants, or have taken MAOIs within the last 2 weeks.
- Are taking beta-blockers (e.g., atenolol).
Speak to a pharmacist/doctor before use if you:
- Have Raynaud’s phenomenon, an enlarged prostate, or heart/circulation disease.
- Take other medicines, especially metoclopramide/domperidone, ergotamine/methysergide, colestyramine, digoxin, or anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin).
- Are seriously unwell (e.g., severe infection/sepsis, severe renal impairment), malnourished, drink alcohol heavily, or are taking flucloxacillin (rare risk of metabolic acidosis with prolonged regular paracetamol).
Pregnancy & breastfeeding
- Due to the phenylephrine and caffeine content, it should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless advised by a doctor.
Possible side effects
Stop taking and seek urgent advice if you experience:
- Allergic reactions (rash/itching, swelling of mouth/face, shortness of breath), or very rare serious skin reactions
- Skin rash/peeling or mouth ulcers
- Breathing problems (more likely if you’ve had this with ibuprofen/aspirin)
- Unexplained bruising/bleeding, recurring fevers/infections
- Nausea, sudden weight loss, loss of appetite, or yellowing of skin/eyes
- Visual disturbances (rare, more likely with glaucoma), unusually fast/irregular heartbeat, or difficulty passing urine
