Product Overview
Single-dose 150 mg oral capsule with fluconazole to treat thrush (yeast infection) in adults and partners. Trusted Canesten antifungal medicine with clear UK-compliant instructions.
Description
Canesten Oral Fluconazole Capsule 150 mg is a pharmacy medicine used in the UK for the treatment of thrush (candida yeast infection) affecting adults. Each single-dose, antifungal oral capsule contains 150 mg of fluconazole, an azole antifungal that works systemically to combat the underlying cause of thrush by inhibiting fungal growth. Thrush is caused by an overgrowth of Candida yeast, leading to symptoms such as persistent itching, burning, soreness, redness and abnormal discharge.
Canesten fluconazole capsules are suitable for both women and men experiencing thrush symptoms (e.g., vaginal or penile thrush) and can help restore comfort and balance quickly, often beginning to clear symptoms within a couple of days after the single dose.
How to Use
For adults (usually aged 16–60 unless otherwise advised by a pharmacist or doctor):
- Swallow one capsule whole with a glass of water, with or without food.
- Do not crush or chew the capsule.
- A single 150 mg dose is typically sufficient to treat most uncomplicated thrush infections.
- The symptoms of thrush should start to improve within 48 hours, with full symptom resolution often within a few days.
- If symptoms persist beyond 7 days, or if recurrent infections occur more than twice in 6 months, consult your doctor.
Important UK pharmacy guidance:
- You will usually be asked a short pharmacy questionnaire to ensure this medicine is suitable for you before supply.
- Not recommended for children under 16 or adults over 60 without professional advice.
- If treatment is needed for recurring or complicated infections, seek medical advice.
Ingredients
Active Ingredient (per capsule):

Other (non-active) ingredients:
- Colloidal silicon dioxide – excipient/stabiliser.
- Lactose monohydrate – filler (note lactose intolerance considerations).
- Magnesium stearate, maize starch, sodium lauryl sulphate – formulation aids.
- Capsule shell: Gelatine with colourants such as brilliant blue FCF (E133) and titanium dioxide (E171).
Form: Oral, single dose capsule designed for internal absorption to treat fungal infection systemically.
