Product Overview
2mg nicotine gum for those who smoke 20 or fewer cigarettes/day (or light to moderate vapers). Use 1 gum when needed using the chew-and-rest technique. Max 15 gums/day. 210 pieces.
Description
Nicorette® Original Gum 2mg is a nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) used to relieve and/or prevent nicotine withdrawal symptoms and reduce cravings when you:
- Stop smoking or stop vaping
- Cut down the number of cigarettes/e-cigarettes you use
- Need help with temporary abstinence (when you can’t or don’t want to smoke/vape)
When you chew Nicorette gum correctly, nicotine is released and absorbed through the lining of the mouth, helping to manage cravings without the harmful substances in tobacco smoke.
Strength guide
- 2mg is suitable if you smoke 20 or fewer cigarettes per day, are a light to moderate vaper, or as a step-down option from higher strength gum.
Pack size
- 210 pieces (Original flavour).
How to Use
Who can use it
- Adults and children aged 12 years and over
- Do not give to children under 12 years
Dose
- Use 1 piece of 2mg gum as required to relieve cravings.
- Use only one piece at a time.
- Do not use more than 15 gums per day.
How to chew (chew-and-rest technique)
Nicorette gum is not chewed like ordinary chewing gum. Chewing continuously can release nicotine too quickly and may cause throat irritation, hiccups or stomach upset.
- Chew slowly until the taste becomes strong.
- Rest the gum between your gum and cheek.
- Chew again when the taste fades, repeating the cycle.
- Continue for about 30 minutes, then dispose of the gum safely.
Dentures
- The gum may stick to dentures and, rarely, damage them. If this is a problem, another type of NRT may be more suitable.
If you use too many gums (or use nicotine from other sources at the same time)
Symptoms of too much nicotine can include nausea, vomiting, increased salivation, stomach pain, diarrhoea, sweating, headache, dizziness, hearing disturbance or weakness. Seek urgent medical advice.

Side Effects & Warnings
Do not use
- If you are under 12 years of age
- If you are allergic to nicotine or any of the ingredients
Important warnings & precautions
- Keep out of sight and reach of children and animals. Nicotine can be very dangerous to children and may be fatal if taken accidentally.
- Speak to a doctor, pharmacist or nurse before use if you have certain medical conditions (including being in hospital with heart disease, recent heart attack, severe or worsening angina, serious heart rhythm problems, recent stroke, uncontrolled high blood pressure) or if you have stomach/duodenal ulcer, inflammation of the stomach/oesophagus, liver or kidney disease, overactive thyroid, phaeochromocytoma, diabetes, or a history of seizures (fits).
- If you take regular medicines (for example theophylline, clozapine, ropinirole), doses may need adjustment when you stop smoking. Ask for advice.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Try to stop smoking without NRT first. If you can’t, ask a healthcare professional for advice. Intermittent NRT (such as gum) may be used in pregnancy/breastfeeding, and breastfeeding just before using the gum can help reduce nicotine exposure to the baby.
Ingredient warnings
- Contains sorbitol (a source of fructose). If you have an intolerance to some sugars or hereditary fructose intolerance, seek advice before use.
- Contains E321, which may cause local skin reactions (e.g. contact dermatitis) or irritation to eyes and mucous membranes.
- Contains a small amount of ethanol per gum (not expected to have noticeable effects).
Possible side effects
Common effects, especially at the start or if chewed too quickly, can include throat irritation, hiccups, nausea, headache, mouth/throat soreness, indigestion, and increased salivation.
Stop using and get medical help urgently if you develop signs of a serious allergic reaction (swelling of face, lips, tongue or throat; difficulty breathing; severe dizziness), or other severe unexpected symptoms.
Side effects can be reported via the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
