Description
Nurofen 200mg – 16 Tablets contain ibuprofen 200mg, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). NSAIDs help relieve pain, swelling (inflammation) and high temperature by changing the body’s response to pain and fever.
Used for short-term relief of:
- Headaches and migraine pain
- Dental pain and neuralgia
- Period pain
- Rheumatic, muscular and back pain
- Feverishness and symptoms of cold and flu
Pack size: Nurofen 200mg Tablets are available in several pack sizes including 16 tablets (not all pack sizes are marketed).
How to Use
Always read the leaflet before use. For oral administration and short-term use only. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest time needed to relieve symptoms.
Dosage
Adults, the elderly, and children/adolescents aged 12 to 18 years:
- Swallow 1 or 2 tablets with water, up to three times a day as required
- Leave at least 4 hours between doses
- Do not take more than 6 tablets in 24 hours
- Do not give to children under 12 years
How long to take
- Ages 12–18: if needed for more than 3 days, or if symptoms worsen, consult a doctor
- Adults: contact a doctor if symptoms worsen or do not improve after 10 days
If you take too many
Seek urgent medical advice if more than the recommended dose is taken (even if you feel well). Overdose symptoms can include nausea, stomach pain, vomiting, headache, ringing in the ears, confusion and drowsiness.
Ingredients
Active ingredient (per tablet):
- Ibuprofen 200mg
Other ingredients:
Sucrose, sodium citrate, talc, croscarmellose sodium, stearic acid, titanium dioxide, silicon dioxide, acacia, carmellose sodium, sodium laurilsulphate, macrogol and black ink (contains shellac, iron oxide black (E172) and propylene glycol).
Important ingredient information:
- Contains sodium 13.71mg per tablet (0.69% of the recommended maximum daily intake for an adult).
- Contains sucrose. If you have been told you have an intolerance to some sugars, speak to a doctor before taking.
Side Effects & Warnings
Do not take this medicine if you:
- Are allergic to ibuprofen, any ingredients, aspirin or other painkillers
- Have (or have had) a stomach ulcer, perforation or bleeding, or have had GI bleeding/perforation with NSAIDs
- Have had worsening of asthma, rash, itchy runny nose or facial swelling after ibuprofen/aspirin/similar medicines
- Are taking other NSAIDs, or more than 75mg aspirin daily (if on low-dose aspirin up to 75mg, seek advice before use)
- Have severe liver or kidney problems
- Are in the last 3 months of pregnancy
- Are under 12 years old
Speak to a doctor or pharmacist before taking if you:
Have or have had asthma, kidney/heart/liver/bowel problems, high cholesterol, a previous heart attack or stroke, inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis/Crohn’s), systemic lupus erythematosus, you are a smoker, you are in the first 6 months of pregnancy, or you have an infection (ibuprofen can mask signs such as fever and pain).
Stop taking and get urgent help if you develop:
- Signs of an allergic reaction (breathing problems, swelling of face/neck, or chest pain)
- Severe skin reactions (rare but serious reactions have been reported; stop and seek medical attention if symptoms occur)
- Signs of stomach bleeding (e.g., vomiting blood or black stools)
Possible side effects
Side effects can include stomach upset (such as indigestion, stomach pain, nausea), and less commonly effects on asthma, swelling, high blood pressure, or other reactions. Report side effects via the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.
Storage
Keep out of the sight and reach of children. Do not store above 25°C. Store in the original pack. Do not use after the expiry date.
