Nytol Liquid Caramel Flavour - 300ml

Nytol Liquid Caramel Flavour 300 ml is a pharmacy-only night-time sleep medicine designed to provide temporary relief of occasional sleeplessness and short-term sleep difficulties. The oral solution contains the sedating antihistamine diphenhydramine hydrochloride, which helps reduce the time it takes to fall asleep and improves the depth and quality of sleep in adults.

Its pleasant caramel flavour and liquid format make it a suitable alternative for those who find tablets difficult to swallow, providing flexibility and ease of use.

Each 5 ml contains 10 mg of diphenhydramine hydrochloride, an antihistamine with sedative properties that act on the brain’s waking system to support sleep onset.

This product is intended for adult use (16 years+ only) as a short-term sleep aid when sleep is not easily achieved. 

Adults and adolescents aged 16 years and over:

• Take 10–25 ml at bedtime or after retiring when sleep is not easily achieved.

Administration & UK pharmacy guidance:

• Shake the bottle well before use to ensure uniform dosing.
• Use the provided measuring cap to ensure accurate dosing.
• Do not take a repeat dose on the same night.
• For short-term relief only; if sleep problems persist beyond a few weeks, consult a doctor or pharmacist.
• Not recommended for children under 16 years.
• Always follow the patient information leaflet included in the pack.

Active Ingredient (per 5 ml):

• Diphenhydramine hydrochloride 10 mg — a first-generation antihistamine with sedative properties that helps the body transition to sleep.

Other Ingredients (excipients):

• Purified water
• Sucrose
• Sodium saccharin
• Propylene glycol
• Glycerin
• Parahydroxybenzoates (methyl E218, ethyl E214, propyl E216 & butyl)
• Caramel flavouring
• Caramel colouring (E150)

Who should not use this medicine

• Children under 16 years.
• Individuals allergic to diphenhydramine hydrochloride or any ingredient listed above.
• Do not take with other sedating medicines or alcohol.
• If you have taken other antihistamine-containing medicines or sleeping aids, seek pharmacist advice before use.

Precautions:

• May cause drowsiness, dizziness or impaired concentration; if affected, do not drive or operate machinery.
• Avoid alcohol while using this medicine as it may enhance sedative effects.
• Consult a clinician before use if you have any of the following: glaucoma, difficulty passing urine, prostate problems, asthma, COPD, epilepsy, severe liver/kidney disease, or if pregnant or breastfeeding.

Possible side effects:

Like all medicines, this product can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them. Reported reactions may include:

• Drowsiness, dizziness or headache.
• Dry mouth or blurred vision.
• Rarely, allergic reactions such as rash or itching.

If side effects are severe, persistent or unusual, stop use and seek medical advice promptly. You may also report suspected adverse reactions via the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.

Overdose warning:

Exceeding the recommended dose can lead to increased sedation and other serious symptoms; if an overdose is suspected, seek urgent medical attention even if you feel well.

Storage:

• Store in original packaging below 25 °C, protected from light and moisture.
• Keep out of sight and reach of children.
• Do not use after the expiry date shown on the bottle.
