Xylocaine 10mg Anaesthetic Spray - 50ml

Xylocaine 10mg Anaesthetic Spray – 50ml is a local anaesthetic pump spray containing lidocaine. It is a non-sterile solution used to numb (anaesthetise) parts of the body to help reduce pain and reflex gagging.

What it’s used for

Xylocaine Spray is used to reduce pain and reflex gagging:

• During medical examination of the nose, throat, stomach or lungs where viewing instruments are inserted
• During minor procedures involving the nose and throat
• After childbirth
• During treatment at the dentist

Pack information

• 50ml glass bottle with spray pump closure
• Approximately 500 sprays per bottle
• Pack includes a single-use CE-marked nozzle (extra nozzles available separately)

Xylocaine Spray is usually given by a doctor or dentist. The dose depends on the procedure, your age and physical condition. If you are given it to take home, use it exactly as your doctor or dentist has told you.

Key directions

• Do not use more than 20 sprays in any single procedure. Use as few sprays as possible.
• Use only with the nozzle supplied. Nozzles are single use only and should be disposed of after use.
• Do not get the spray in your eyes.
• The nozzle is bent to work properly. Do not reshape it (it may break).

After spraying the mouth or throat

Take care when eating or drinking afterwards. Numbness can make it more likely that food or drink may go down the wrong way, and it may cause difficulty swallowing or accidental biting of the tongue/cheek. 

Active ingredient (per spray / metered dose):

• Lidocaine 10mg

Other ingredients:

• Ethanol
• Levomenthol
• Macrogol 400
• Essence of banana (contains propylene glycol)
• Saccharin
• Purified water

Contains: less than 100mg ethanol per spray; propylene glycol may cause skin irritation.

Do not use if

• You are allergic to lidocaine or any ingredients, or allergic to similar local anaesthetics (e.g. prilocaine, bupivacaine).

Talk to a doctor/dentist/pharmacist before use if you have

• Cuts, sores or ulcers in the throat, mouth or nose
• A chest infection
• Epilepsy
• Heart problems (such as a slow heartbeat) or very low blood pressure
• Liver or kidney problems
• Porphyria (or family history)

Other medicines

Tell your doctor/dentist if you take medicines for an uneven heartbeat (arrhythmia) such as mexiletine.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, ask your doctor/dentist for advice before use.

Possible side effects

Rare serious allergic reaction (up to 1 in 1,000): swelling of face/lips/tongue/throat, difficulty swallowing/breathing, severe itching with raised lumps, swelling of hands/feet/ankles. Seek urgent help.

Other possible side effects include: irritation where used, nervousness, dizziness, sleepiness, loss of consciousness, sore throat, hoarse/lost voice, low blood pressure (light-headedness), fits (seizures), difficulty/slow breathing, slow heartbeat, stopped breathing or heart.

Storage

• Do not store above 25°C.
• Below 8°C the solution may start to go solid; it should dissolve again when warmed gently to room temperature.
