Description

What is Rabeprazole 10mg Tablets?

Rabeprazole 10mg Tablets belong to a group of medicines called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), which work by reducing the amount of acid produced in the stomach. By lowering stomach acid, Rabeprazole helps relieve symptoms such as heartburn, acid reflux, and indigestion, while also aiding in the healing of acid-related damage.

These tablets are commonly prescribed for conditions like:

  • Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD/acid reflux) – inflammation of the food pipe caused by stomach acid.

  • Peptic ulcers – including duodenal and gastric ulcers.

  • Zollinger-Ellison syndrome – a rare condition where the stomach produces too much acid.

  • H. pylori infection (in combination with antibiotics) – helping to eradicate infection and heal ulcers.

Rabeprazole 10mg is usually recommended for symptomatic relief of acid reflux and long-term management of GORD.

Can I take Rabeprazole if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

No, Rabeprazole is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

  • If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or planning to have a baby, you should not take Rabeprazole unless your doctor considers it absolutely necessary.

  • Rabeprazole can also pass into breast milk, so it should not be taken while breastfeeding.

Always speak to your doctor before starting Rabeprazole if you are pregnant, trying for a baby, or nursing. Your healthcare provider may suggest alternative treatments that are safer for you and your baby.

Which medications should I avoid while taking Rabeprazole?

Rabeprazole can interact with certain medicines, making them less effective or increasing side effect risks. You should inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking:

  • HIV medicines such as atazanavir – should not be used together with Rabeprazole.

  • Antifungal medicines like ketoconazole or itraconazole – Rabeprazole can reduce their effectiveness.

  • Methotrexate (high doses) – used in cancer treatment; your doctor may pause Rabeprazole during therapy.

  • Other medicines that depend on stomach acidity for absorption.

To stay safe, always provide your doctor with a full list of your current medications, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, and herbal supplements.

How to Use

  • Always follow your doctor’s instructions. The dose depends on your condition.

  • For acid reflux (GORD): usually one 10mg tablet once daily. Treatment may last up to 4 weeks, but your doctor may extend it if needed.

  • For maintenance therapy: your doctor may advise taking Rabeprazole 10mg daily on a longer-term basis.

  • Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not chew or crush it, as it has a protective coating to ensure the medicine works properly.

  • Timing: It is best to take Rabeprazole at the same time each day, usually in the morning.

  • If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it’s nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed one – never double up.

  • Do not stop treatment suddenly without medical advice, even if you feel better.
