Description
Anadin Original Caplets – 16 Caplets provide effective relief of mild to moderate pain. Each caplet contains aspirin (an NSAID painkiller that also reduces inflammation, temperature and fever) plus caffeine, which helps increase the pain-relieving effect.
For relief of:
- Headache and migraine
- Neuralgia (sharp nerve pain)
- Toothache
- Sore throat
- Period pains
- Aches and pains
- Sprains, strains and rheumatic pain
- Sciatica, lumbago, chronic muscle pain (including fibrositis), muscular aches
- Joint swelling and stiffness
- Influenza, feverishness and feverish colds
Pack size: 16 caplets.
How to Use
Always read the leaflet before use. For oral use and short-term use only. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest time needed to relieve symptoms.
Dosage
Adults, the elderly and young persons aged over 16 years:
- Take 1 to 2 caplets every 4 to 6 hours as required
- Swallow with water
- Leave at least 4 hours between doses
- Do not take more than 12 caplets in 24 hours
Do not give to children under 16 years unless a doctor has advised it (risk of Reye’s syndrome).
For migraine: do not give to children and adolescents under 18 years.
If symptoms persist for more than 3 days or worsen, seek advice.
If you take too many: contact a doctor or hospital immediately and take the pack with you.
Ingredients
Active ingredients (per caplet): Aspirin 325mg, Caffeine 15mg
Other ingredients: quinine sulphate, microcrystalline cellulose (E460), maize starch, calcium stearate, hypromellose (E464), macrogol.
Side Effects & Warnings
Do not take if you:
- Are allergic to aspirin or any ingredient
- Have had asthma/bronchospasm, angioedema, urticaria or acute rhinitis triggered by aspirin or other NSAIDs
- Have ever had a stomach ulcer, perforation or bleeding
- Have haemophilia, other clotting disorders, or take medicines that affect clotting (e.g. warfarin or other anticoagulants)
- Have kidney or liver failure
- Have a history of gout
- Are in the late stages of pregnancy or are breastfeeding
- Are under 16 (unless a doctor advises)
Speak to a doctor or pharmacist before taking if you:
- Have asthma, allergic disease, nasal polyps, dehydration, liver or kidney problems, hypertension, diabetes, or G-6-PD deficiency
- Are taking other medicines, especially other NSAIDs, corticosteroids, diuretics, medicines for epilepsy, diabetes, some antidepressants (SSRIs/venlafaxine), methotrexate, ACE inhibitors, antacids, or medicines for gout (e.g. probenecid)
- Take products containing caffeine (excess caffeine may increase tremor/palpitations)
Possible side effects
Stop taking and seek urgent advice if you get signs of:
- Stomach ulceration/perforation/bleeding (severe abdominal pain, vomiting blood/“coffee grounds”, black stools, blood in stools)
- Severe allergic reaction (breathing difficulty, rash, swelling of face)
- Wheezing/breathing difficulties, especially if you have asthma
Other effects can include indigestion/heartburn, nausea/vomiting, easy bruising/bleeding, and caffeine-related palpitations or tremor.
