Description
Beechams Powders provide relief from cold and flu symptoms, including sore throat pain, headache, feverishness and aches and pains.
They also relieve mild to moderate pain, including migraine, neuralgia, toothache, sore throat pain, period pain and rheumatic pain.
Each sachet contains aspirin (a pain reliever and fever reducer) plus caffeine (present as a mild stimulant).
Pack size: 10 sachets.
How to Use
Always take this medicine exactly as described in the leaflet or as your pharmacist has told you.
Directions (oral use):
- Mix the contents of 1 sachet with a little water, stir, and drink.
Dose:
- Adults (including the elderly) and children aged 16 years and over: 1 sachet every 4–6 hours as needed.
- Maximum: Do not take more than 6 sachets in 24 hours.
How long to use:
- Do not use for more than 10 days for pain relief (or more than 3 days for fever). Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible time. If symptoms persist, see your doctor.
Age restriction:
- Do not give to children under 16 years unless your doctor tells you to.
If you take too much:
- Seek medical advice immediately, even if you feel well.
Ingredients
Active ingredients (per sachet):
- Aspirin 600mg
- Caffeine 50mg
Other ingredients:
Lactose monohydrate, maize starch, colloidal anhydrous silica, sodium lauryl sulphate, saccharin sodium, sodium cyclamate and spice flavour.
Allergy/intolerance info:
- Contains lactose (a sugar).
- Contains soya protein (do not take if allergic to peanut or soya).
- Contains less than 1 mmol sodium (23mg) per sachet (essentially “sodium-free”).
Side Effects & Warnings
Do not take if you:
- Are allergic to aspirin/salicylates, caffeine, NSAIDs (including if you’ve had an allergic reaction after taking ibuprofen or aspirin) or any ingredients.
- Are allergic to peanut or soya (contains soya protein).
- Have had asthma or shortness of breath in response to aspirin before.
- Have high blood pressure or heart disease.
- Have ever had a stomach ulcer, perforation or bleeding of the stomach.
- Have blood clotting disorders (e.g., haemophilia) or have ever had gout.
- Have liver or kidney disease.
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding except on medical advice.
Important warnings (pharmacy advice):
- Under 16s: Aspirin may cause Reye’s syndrome (very rare but can be fatal). Do not give to under 16s with chicken pox or cold/flu symptoms unless a doctor is consulted.
- Bleeding risk: Aspirin may cause bleeding. Tell a doctor if you notice unusual bleeding. Alcohol increases bleeding risk.
- Avoid excessive caffeine (coffee, tea and some canned drinks) while using this product.
- Speak to a pharmacist/doctor before use if you have asthma/allergic disease/nasal polyps, are dehydrated, have kidney/liver problems, or take interacting medicines (including methotrexate, anticoagulants, thrombolytics, ACE inhibitors, SSRIs, other NSAIDs, lithium, epilepsy medicines, beta-blockers, diuretics, corticosteroids, antacids).
Possible side effects (stop and seek urgent advice):
- Stomach ulceration/perforation or bleeding (severe abdominal pain, vomiting blood, black stools).
- Severe allergic reactions (difficulty breathing, rash, facial swelling, chest tightness/asthma attack).
- Bruising/bleeding, yellowing of skin/eyes, ringing in ears or temporary hearing loss.
- With high caffeine intake: difficulty sleeping, shaking, dizziness, nervousness, palpitations.
Storage:
Store below 25°C in a dry place. Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
