Bonjela Cool Mint Gel - 15g

Bonjela Cool Mint Gel (15g) is a clear, mint-flavoured oral gel used to:

• Relieve the pain and discomfort of common mouth ulcers and cold sores
• Aid healing of sore spots and ulcers due to dentures and braces

It contains:

• Choline salicylate (a painkiller and anti-inflammatory) to soothe sore areas in the mouth
• Cetalkonium chloride (an antiseptic) to kill bacteria and help prevent infection

Suitable for adults and children over the age of 16 years. 

Always use this medicine exactly as described in the leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.

For adults and children over 16 years only:

Mouth ulcers and sores

• Using a clean finger, massage approximately 1 cm (½ inch) of gel onto the sore area.
• This can be repeated after 3 hours.

Denture sores

• Massage approximately 1 cm of gel onto the sore area and leave at least 30 minutes before reinserting dentures.
• Do not apply the gel directly onto dentures.

When to seek advice

• If symptoms do not improve or get worse after 7 days, speak to a doctor or dentist.
• Do not use more than directed, as salicylate toxicity may occur. 

Active ingredients:

• Choline salicylate 8.714% w/w
• Cetalkonium chloride 0.01% w/w

Other ingredients:

• Ethanol, glycerol, menthol, hypromellose 4500, mint flavour, sodium saccharin, water. 

Age restriction

• Do not give to children or adolescents under 16 years due to a possible link between salicylates and Reye’s syndrome when given to children.

Do not use if:

• You are suffering from a stomach ulcer
• You are allergic to salicylates, aspirin, other NSAIDs (e.g. ibuprofen), or any ingredients in this product

Medicines interactions

• Talk to your doctor before using with aspirin or other salicylates.
• Salicylates may increase the effect of blood-thinning medicines (anticoagulants) and can decrease the effect of some gout medicines (uricosurics) such as probenecid/benzbromarone.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

• If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, speak to your doctor or pharmacist before use.

Important ingredient information

• Contains 46.83 mg alcohol (ethanol) per dose; may cause a burning sensation on damaged skin.
• Contains less than 1 mmol sodium (23 mg) per dose (essentially “sodium-free”).

Possible side effects

Stop using and seek immediate medical help if you experience signs of a serious allergic reaction, such as unexplained wheezing/coughing, asthma, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, itching, or swelling of the face, tongue or throat.

Storage

• Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
• Do not use after the expiry date.
• Do not store above 25°C.
